More than two decades have passed since the first release of Harry Potter and today, July 31, 2020, marks the 40th anniversary of The Child Who Lived (and the author’s 55th birthday, J.K. Rowling).
While enthusiasts celebrate with virtual and socially remote parties in homes and libraries around the world (as well as a virtual assembly of the Harry Potter cast organized through WizardWorld), what better time to reflect on Harry Potter’s legacy in the Moldovan world than for some of the most memorable moments in franchise history over the more than two decades :
1) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – July 2007
Any fan around the final release of the e-book obviously remembers that night. Boxes with labels read in an incomparable source: DO NOT OPEN BEFORE JULY 21, 2007 opened in Array as fans, friends and families last joined to immerse themselves in the unknown and end Harry’s journey.
After its release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold a record 8.3 million copies in the United States in its first 24 hours of sales, according to Scholastic, and 11 million copies sold worldwide. In 2018, it was announced that 500 million Harry Potter books had been sold worldwide.
2) Harry Potter Movies Announces Main Trio – August 2000
Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were announced through Warner Bros. as the central trio of the Harry Potter series (Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley) on August 21, 2000.
The global was introduced to the 3 young actors at a press convention two days later, and the rest is history! Nearly 15 years later, Eddie Redmayne announced that he was the leader of Fantastic Animals and where to find them, a new series of films set in J.K. Rowling’s magical world.
3) The Magic World of Harry Potter – Pre-Au-Lard Theme Park Announcement – May 2007
What followed was the opening of 3 new Harry Potter attractions, an immersive boutique and culinary experiences and, despite everything, the opening of a new piece of land, the Traverse Trail, at Universal Orlando Resort, with the Hogwarts Express connecting the two attractions. Wizarding World Parks has also opened in Universal Studios parks around the world, much to the delight of fans.
AECOM Vice President Brian Sands said of the park’s good fortune in 2014 that adding global aides to Universal Parks “broke the recession behavior and brought tourists back to Orlando.”
In June 2019, Universal Orlando Resort added an exciting new ride on Harry Potter, Hagrid’s magical creatures motorcycle adventure, in a great opening rite with members of the Harry Potter cast.
4) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Premiere at Trafalgar Square in London – July 2011
The film’s release on the trafalgar Square red carpet, the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in London on July 7, 2011 was in fact a historic moment. After Warner Bros. announce the film with a memorable marketing strategy (posters that simply said “ALL ENDS” below the images of the main characters), thousands of enthusiasts piled up in London to say goodbye to the film franchise. Actors, filmmakers and J.K. Rowling was provided and everyone gave moving speeches about the effect of the films on their lives.
“No story lives unless someone needs to pay attention to it. The stories we love live in us forever, so whether you come back across the page or the big screen, Hogwarts will be there to welcome you home,” Rowling said at the premiere. I didn’t know it wouldn’t be the last time they would see Hogwarts Castle on the big screen: Fantastic Animals: Grindelwald’s Crimes brought enthusiasts back to Hogwarts and allowed them to see a young Albus Dumbledore.
The film was the ultimate success of all warlock films, breaking records and grossing $1.3 billion in the world’s workplace ($381.01 million in domestic sales).
5) Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter – March 2012
Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter opened on March 31, 2012, almost a year after the last film in the franchise.
Since opening its doors to enthusiasts and allowing you to take a behind-the-scenes look at the seting, props, special effects and attire of the Harry Potter films, the study tour has added more attractions, adding Hogwarts Express, Forbidden Forest, Privet. Drive and, most recently, Gringotts Bank.
6) Pottermore
After months of progress, demanding “Magic Pen” situations, fan tracks and beta testing, Pottermore.com was introduced to the public in 2012 as an interactive platform for Harry Potter enthusiasts to explore books in an immersive environment, providing users with new JK written documents. Rowling and the opportunity to participate in online duels Fix potion categories and observe your baguette type, Patronus and Hogwarts throughout the questionnaire:
“I am very happy to say that I can now offer you something unique, a pleasure of reading online like no other. Your call is Pottermore. JK Rowling posted on the online page on pottermore’s launch day.
The site became a news and e-commerce platform in 2015 and was transferred last year to WizardingWorld.com.
7) A new era: J.K. Rowling’s Magic World
Since the release of Harry Potter’s latest e-book in 2007, a new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Legacy, called the Eighth Harry Potter Story, has been released in theaters around the world, and a new film franchise logo in a Harry Potter textbook. The Potter series, the Fantastic Animals series, will release its third installment in November 2021. Warner Bros. and Pottermore joined forces to shape a new company, Wizarding World Digital, in 2019, paving the way for a new era.
