The Cinema Foundation, the nonprofit organization of the National Association of Theater Owners, has named Mike Bowers, president and CEO of Harkins Theatres, as its new president.
Bowers will play Tim Handren, who is retiring as chief executive of Santikos Theatres. Tori A. Baker, executive director and president of the Salt Lake Film Society, will continue to lead as vice president of the Cinema Foundation.

Bowers joins the Cinema Foundation with more than 40 years of experience, helping to grow Harkins Theaters from an Arizona-based chain with six locations to one of the top five largest circuits in the United States. In addition to the Cinema Foundation, Bowers’ positions include vice president of the NATO Board of Directors and a member of the Greater Phoenix Leadership Council and the CEO Cancer Committee of the American Cancer Society. “Mike is one of our top strategic and committed members. Established through NATO in 2022, the Cinema Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to promoting the cinematic experience to audiences and employment and advancement opportunities for workers in the film industry. The organization has also coordinated with movie theaters, studios and industry partners to host occasions such as National Movie Day, with tickets and popcorn sold for $4 each.
