A Harry Potter-inspired theme park will upgrade a 94-year-old amusement park in Tokyo for legions of wizard children fans.
Warner Bros Japan and partners who added Seibu Railway and the Itochu trading space announced Tuesday that the theme park in honor of the Harry Potter film series would open in the first part of 2023.
Seibu Railway, owner of Toshimaen, one of Tokyo’s oldest amusement parks dating back to 1926, will integrate the 220,000 square meter site into a new theme park. The rest of the land will be sold to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
At approximately 30,000 square meters, the theme park will feature sets of films, costumes and accessories used in beloved fantasy films based on popular novels of the same call through the British J.K. Rowling.
Ann Sarnoff, president and CEO of Warner Bros., said the theme park will offer “fans of all ages an exclusive way to approach the movies” and that the company “is looking ahead to create something very special.” “
According to Seibu, the park will be the time for such an installation after the Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, which has received more than 1.4 million since it opened in 2012.
“I think this is very clever news,” said Kaori Kawasaki, a student in his 20s in Tokyo. “By then, the Covid-19 pandemic will be over and I hope many other people like me will enjoy the theme park.”
“It also shows that neither Lord Voldemort nor the pandemic can alter the lives of human beings.”
Tokyo’s metropolitan government said the rest of toshimaen’s amenities would become a giant public park, which could also serve as an emergency evacuation site.
