HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Actor Search Targets New Actors

Things are definitely looking up as HBO’s Harry Potter series moves into production, i. e. casting, and now a lot of names are starting to appear as wanted for express roles.

Deadline has a new report that we can combine with the previous ones to round out the adult aspect of the cast list so far, or at least what HBO will be:

What this list implies is that some of those actors are expected to be a little younger, or even a little younger, than previous actors who have taken on those adult roles. Mark Strong, just 61, is indeed an attractive selection for the desiccated Dumbledore.

While Paapa Essiedu has stood out because of his race, I’ve heard some comments that he shouldn’t be Snape because well, he’s too young (34) and good looking, which does not exactly align with the nature of the character (no offense to the late Alan Rickman).

None of those roles are officially cast, rather it’s a wish list and actors who are supposedly being approached through WB for those roles. Still, this is the most main professor roles in the entire series, so it’s pretty important. Cillian Murphy as Voldemort is not on the list, not a rumor, just whatever former Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes said when asked who he thought deserved an update.

Filming on the Harry Potter series is rarely expected to begin until 2026, with a release date planned for 2027. If HBO commits to the full seven-book series, given the spacing of seasons in the streaming era, We would be well into the late 2030s before this series ends. It’s a little difficult to conceive, as is greenlighting at least seven seasons of a series from the beginning, but it seems likely. Just like the show that attracts the audience. But if it’s. . . bad, interest may fade and it may not be enough to see the end. But I have to believe that it will start with an exceptionally high audience. every time it arrives.
