Netflix is already having a hit, so to speak, with Glen Powell and Adria Arjona’s crime comedy Hit Man.
Hit Man, which is usually based on a true story, debuted Friday on the streaming service. The film is based on the crazy true story of Gary Johnson, a fake hitman who conducts undercover operations to help Houston police arrest would-be criminals looking for killers to hire.
Powell plays Gary in Hit Man, co-written by actor and director Richard Linklater. The story of Native Texans appears in Skip Hollandsworth’s October 2001 Texas Monthly article, Hit Man, which chronicles Gary’s extraordinary life.

After Maddy divorces her husband, she and Gary fall in love with each other, but there’s a big challenge she wants to tackle. Maddy does not know that her new love is a fake hitman and does not know his true identity. Things get complicated. Even dangerous, once the two have been seen in combination in public.
Hit Man has garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics gave Hit Man a “new” score of 97% in 202 reviews, while verified users gave the film a “new” score of 95% in less than 50 ratings. .
Hit Man is the latest in a string of hits by Powell, whose star began to rise particularly after starring alongside Tom Cruise in the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Most recently, Powell starred opposite Sydney Sweeney in the hit romantic comedy Anybody Still You and produced the Prime Video documentary The Blue Angels.
Powell will take to the skies in July when he stars opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in the action-mystery film Twisters.
