There are countless horror franchises that have run out of steam after the release of a few sequels, but Chucky is a completely different story. The iconic killer doll hasn’t just had a near-constant presence in pop culture since the release of Child’s Play. in 1988, however, Don Mancini has been included in almost every step of the way (with the new non-canonical version of 2019 being the only exclusion). To date, Mancini has directed seven films and three seasons of a TV show, and not only is it a new film in the works, but Mancini also has a transparent vision of what he needs to do with the fourth season of Chucky and beyond.
When the second part of Chucky season 3 began airing last month, I had the glorious chance to speak with Mancini via Zoom about all facets of the franchise and also talk about things like Devon Sawa’s many deaths and Stephen’s influence. He also talked about the future of his perfect horror series. During our conversation, the filmmaker noticed that he had come up with certain concepts that he needed to implement in the long term, and I asked him if there was a general plan for what was to come. He explained that when more episodes were commissioned, he knew what he wanted to do with the story. Mancini said:
In fact, I’m planning on next season. My concepts get more vague, you know, but they’re still concepts and kind of like some symptoms and signs set up as markers, you know, like a thing, a concept that’s learned somehow. But before that, I worked and already presented the task to the studio and the network. So, you know, I hope we do well enough to justify it.
As Don Mancini mentioned, the fourth season of Chucky is still guaranteed, as the filmmakers and stars are still waiting for Universal Content Productions to provide an official renewal, but if that time came, the writers’ room wouldn’t have to wait patiently. Wait until the showrunner has a great idea. It’s also smart to know that Mancini wasn’t backed into a corner with those unexpected advancements at the end of Season 3.
It’s understandable that Chucky enthusiasts need to see more adventures starring the beloved killer toy, but that specific preference will be ignited after Chucky Season 3 concludes, in which we don’t exactly see Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn). Lind) in safe circumstances. In fact, they are arguably more threatened than ever.
In the Chucky season 3 finale, Lexy is finally reunited with her sister Caroline (Carina London Battrick), but it’s in cases that turn out horrific. While Chucky (Brad Dourif) was busy at the White House, Cross’s younger brother was living with Wfinishell Wilkins (John Waters), the rather crazy doll designer who originally created the Good Guy and Belle dolls. After Wfinishell and Caroline used their voodoo talents to help reunite Chucky and Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) into their mold. In plastic forms, the three protagonists of the series are also turned into dolls and locked in a cage. Nica (Fiona Dourif) seems to find out about their situation in the end, but it’s still unclear how they’ll be saved.
