Twisters just hit the 2024 movie release schedule, and some spoilers about what happens after Kate, Tyler and Javi face a first tornado can be found in this article, as well as in all my reviews on the topic .
When I wrote about the end of Twisters a few days ago, I really liked what I saw. I was grateful that director Lee Isaac Chung reworked the original editing of the film to finally reunite Kate, Tyler, and Javi at an airport. I enjoyed the laugh-outs between Powell’s Tyler and an airport agent played by Paul Scheer. But I didn’t like the way the movie ended when Tyler was packing Kate’s suitcase; I mean, did you discover it at an airport and we couldn’t give each other a light kiss?Apparently, Steven Spielberg is guilty of this.
Reviews for Twisters have been pretty positive about the movie and it also “exceeded” box office expectations this weekend, so I need to be clear that this is a bummer and not a game changer. Game for a movie that is in a different way a fun adventure. But if, like me, you feel like you didn’t get the romantic cinematic moment you needed, Daisy Edgar-Jones showed Collider that you can blame another notable director.
I think it’s a note from Spielberg, is it rarely?Do you know what it is? Actually, I think it helps to keep the movie from looking too cliché. I think there’s something glorious about the feeling that there’s a continuation. This is not the end of his story. They are united by their habitual fondness for anything.
The last part of your comment at least corresponds to what I felt when I saw the end of Twisters. While Kate and Tyler figured out how to make their formula paints for the smart people of Oklahoma, that doesn’t seem like the end of the story. , even with the end credits showing us a little of what happened next (like Ben, who publishes his article). There’s more to come, possibly in a sequel, so Chung and co. Maybe you’re saving some clever moments for later.
Note that a kiss was filmed for the movie. Powell proved it in an interview and there is also a viral video circulating on TikTok and Instagram that proves the fact of his comment. So, they gave each other a choice, but in the end they didn’t kiss.
It wasn’t just Edgar-Jones who defended the lack of kissing between Powell and her in the latest edition of the film. Chung also told EW that it’s not an offense to any of his leads, but that the scene just didn’t suit him. . He said it more as a preference of the public to succeed.
I feel like the audience is in a different position now in terms of whether there is a kiss or not. I tried to kiss him and it was very polarizing, and it wasn’t because of the functionality of the kiss.
I guess all I can say about this comment is that I’m really glad I made myself immune to the whims of pop culture when I was 30, and still went for a kiss, and I think maybe the challenge was placement. As for the ending of this wonderful action film, I honestly like the suitcase moment and I don’t think it would be a bad mark on Spielberg’s part, if we had obtained an emotional reward elsewhere.
Instead, those two had survived tornadoes in combination and Tyler even met Kate’s mother. His mother! They may have spent some time in the barn. Or in the pool after the tornado, or before going to save the other inhabitants of the small town in the last third of the film. So many opportunities for sneaky kissing, that’s all I’m saying.
So, yes, maybe ending a movie with a kiss is a bit cliché, especially for younger generations, but acting like the two of you are just potential friends through this movie also turns out to be a bit incorrect. In life-or-death situations, other people can get close very quickly, and that’s precisely what happened with Tyler and Kate. Are you really telling me that he wouldn’t have gone to kiss at some point? This confident but in love boy who knows exactly what he needs in life and follows his house to achieve it?Surely I refuse to do so.
