The Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, visited the Cinecittà film studios in Rome this morning to check the progress of the PNRR project: from Studio 7, restored, to the layout of the new studios. He was accompanied by the General Director of Cinecittà Spa, Nicola Maccanico, the President Chiara Sbarigia, the members of the Board of Directors, Federico Bagnoli Rossi, Isabella Ciolfi, Giuseppe De Mita and the Undersecretary of Culture Lucia Borgonzoni. Cinecittà is an absolute excellence on the European and world scene. The overall figures of the assembly speak of a luck that continues to grow over time, either in terms of occupancy of all the stages, 75% in the last 2 years, or in requests and bookings of foreign productions, as well as in terms of the balance, which has returned to positive since 2022,” said the minister at the end of the visit.

“Fifty major national and foreign productions since September 2021 – continued Minister Sangiuliano – have landed in the Tuscolana studios thanks to reliability, excellent professionalism, an unbeatable location and a technological update favoured by the new Industrial Plan. With Cinecittà, the entire Italian film industry is re-emerging at a time of strong expansion of the audiovisual sector. I have come to check the progress of the interventions carried out through the PNRR and we are even ahead of schedule. The Ministry will continue with Cinecittà and “We will not stop contributing resources at this vital time for the entire world of Italian cinema”.

The PNRR also provides for a special budget for the progression of the studios, which will allow five screens to be active at Cinecittà until 2026 and an increase of more than 60% in production capacity. The mandatory procedures and deadlines to achieve the objectives have been well reputed and we are perfectly in line with the schedule planned through NRRP investments, until June 2023 all contracts with the winning companies have been signed on time. The plan will lead in particular to the structure of five new sound stages, the renovation of four existing halls, the rationalization of the backlot (the domain committed to the gigantic open-air sets of the studios). The plan also includes the renovation and enhancement of all rooms, the virtual improvement of all facilities, the expansion of production support facilities. and an environmental sustainability programme called “Cinecittà REgeneración”, which aims to progressively reduce the environmental impact in achieving net 0 emissions.
