J. J. Abrams/Bad Robot and Warner Bros. consider extending the deal for film and television

Every once in a while, there is news that can still surprise you and make you shake your head, even if you’ve made sure there’s nothing left that might surprise you. With that in mind, the reports imply that J. J. Abrams and Bad Robot are set to renew their film and television deals with Warner Bros. The news comes as the five-year contract signed through Abrams in 2019 (worth an estimated $250 million) is coming to an end in a way that may be more productive, described as disappointing. When Warner Bros. Discovery came into play in 2022, Abrams’ deal with the company was one of several deals put under the microscope by WBD CEO David Zaslav, and it’s understandable.

Don’t you all forget the live-action Constantine series we never had?Or how about this series “Madame X” produced by Angela Robinson? What would you say about the Justice League Dark project that would have combined the supernatural aspect of the DCEU?Outside of the DCEU, Abrams’ sci-fi drama Demimonde made headlines for its reported load and production time compared to what it was all about, with WBD ultimately unplugging the plug. On Stephen King’s side, the “The Shining” spin-off Overlook never came to fruition, while the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader would prove to be a good fortune, for Amazon’s Prime Video.

That said, Abrams/Bad Robot has also had some on-screen projects, with some engaging projects in the works. David E. Kelley’s Presumed Innocent is a hit for Apple TV and will return for a second season. On the documentary/docuseries side, Charlie Hustle was also created this year
