Much has been written over the years about the cast of The Big Bang Theory. We know that the original roommate on the other side of the corridor replaced Kaley Cuoco’s Penny after the pilot did. In fact, Chuck Lorre has called the pilot a “disaster” in The Afterlife and admitted that they didn’t know what they were doing, but now there’s one on the list that the screen definitely didn’t think of a smart pick because of that age at the time the pilot met.
Who was that a-lister? Brie Larson. And she wasn’t the only major name to try out for the role either.
In an interview about the auditions, Brie Larson once admitted that she tried to star in The Big Bang Theory. Unfortunately, those involved in the casting process thought she was “too young. “Since the pilot for The Big Bang Theory filmed before the fall. 2006 TV season and Cuoco joined the cast before the series, as we know, he gave the impression that he appeared on TV a year later, in 2007, Larson would only be 17 or 18 years old when the show was prepared. He has blatantly lost major jobs in the Star Wars franchise and Terminator Genisys in the past. At this point in her career, she has also beaten out some of the top contenders for roles, notably, landing the role of Captain Marvel in the MCU. Although those who auditioned were never confirmed, names like Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron were mentioned, and Blunt later theorized that there are a limited number. of female actresses that enthusiasts can supposedly believe are those kinds of characters. Since Larson’s acting roots are in comedy, he was an unexpected choice for the MCU role.
It’s unclear if Brie Larson auditioned around the time Katie’s original character was cast or around the time Kaley Cuoco landed the role. It’s also not the only big call to watch The Big Bang Theory, as Elizabeth Berkley and others have revealed. In fact, this whole list is wild and includes other clients like Jodi Lynn O’Keefe.
We know that Cuoco had also looked at the two drafts of the script that had been written: the original with the character “Katie” (which went to Amanda Walsh) and the second script with the character “Penny”.
The only problem? Ken Miller said Kaley Cuoco wasn’t particularly interested in the Penny character when she was pitched it the second time around, having like the “darker” Katie character better. He said in the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive Inside Story Of The Epic Hit Series that she actually passed when offered, unlike Larson, who wasn’t seen to be the right fit.
When Chuck and Bill rewrote the character of Katie/Penny, we said, “What about Kaley?[which had just come out of 8 Simple Rules and Charmed]. And they said, “Let’s bring her. “And then he died. He liked the darker role of the first pilot and didn’t think the rewritten character would be interesting. Nikki spent the entire weekend telling Kaley’s agent, “He was given to come back for this, he was given to do it. “
