Kevin Feige explains why Spider-Man will ‘probably’ upgrade Jon Watts as director

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the slate of upcoming Marvel movies, with a new trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, the official casting announcement for Fantastic Four, and the long-awaited team-up of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) for a movie arriving next week. One hero who has remained in the dark since his last triumphant outing is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, a hero who has ties to Sony and Marvel Studios. Certainly, the last Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, gave enthusiasts the team-up of our dreams and ranks among the most productive Spider-Man movies ever made. But what’s happening with Spider-Man 4?

Spidey’s tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far has been under the watchful eye of director Jon Watts, who joined Spider-Man: Homecoming and directed all 3 Spider-Man films in the MCU. While I was in New York doing press for Deadpool and Wolverine, I had the opportunity to sit down with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and talk about the long run of the MCU. When asked about Spider-Man 4 and if he expected Jon Watts to stay in the franchise, Feige told CinemaBlend:

We love Jon. Jon has directed 3 of the most productive Spider-Man videos of all time for us. There’s a lot going on right now. So we’ll probably look for someone else, just because she’s busy.

Jon Watts is busy. He has a movie coming out later this year, called Wolfs, in which George Clooney and Brad Pitt will be the “cleaners” in competition. The trailer gives the impression of a real adventure, with two charismatic men. After that, however, Watts moved from Marvel to genuine Star Wars, directing episodes of Disney’s upcoming Skeleton Crew series. We don’t know much about Skeleton Crew, other than the fact that it introduces Jude Law to the Star Wars galaxy and has a centered story. around young people on an adventure.

So it looks like Skeleton Crew (and other projects) will take Jon Watts out of the running to direct Spider-Man 4, lending credence to some of the rumors heard about what’s next. Names ranging from original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi to the explosive duo of Bilall and Adil (who directed the Ms. Marvel episodes and are Sony guys thanks to the Bad Boys franchise) have been in the mix. Personally, I’d love to see them try their luck. I would also like to see his movie Batgirl someday. Hope and dream.

Spider-Man 4 remains one of the most anticipated Marvel videos on the horizon. At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s as if Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has just begun his adventure as a lonely, broken Spider-Man. Now we can’t wait to see which filmmaker will usher in the new era of Spider-Man in the MCU.
