The much-awaited release of Vikram’s Thangalaan and Suriya’s Kanguva has hit a major hurdle with the Madras High Court directing the films’ production house, Studio Green, to deposit Rs 1 crore before the film’s release.
According to Live Law, the legal entanglement stems from an ongoing case involving expired real estate and monetary agent Arjunlal Sunderdas. A formal assignee appointed by the High Court to administer Sunderdas’ estate, who has been declared insolvent, has filed an enforcement action. Petition opposed to Studio Green. La production company had already entered into a film production deal with Sunderdas, but monetary disputes arose.
Studio Green claimed to have reached an agreement with Sunderdas to offset the monetary fees by moving the rights to the Hindi remake of 3 of its films. However, the court rejected this argument, saying that there was no concrete evidence for this claim.
The Madras High Court, in its judgment, concluded that Studio Green had failed to comply with an earlier order to pay a really large sum to the official assignee. To ensure the recovery of the quotas, the court ordered the production company to deposit Rs 1 million before the release of Thangalaan and Kanguva.
Speaking of Thangalaan, it’s directed through Pa. Ranjith. The protagonist of Chiyaan Vikram is scheduled for its international premiere on August 15, 2024 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The music for the film is composed through G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Meanwhile, the creators of Kanguva recently released the trailer for the film on the occasion of director Siva’s birthday. The trailer promises a ruthless revenge drama starring Suriya and Bobby Deol. The film will be released on October 9.
