Marvel’s new human torch, Joseph Quinn, hopes he can live up to Chris Evans’ performance

The three Fantastic Four movies (four if you count Roger Corman’s infamous performance) weren’t the most memorable comic book movies. Yes, the first two with Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans won silver, but Alba got a Razzie. The nomination for Sue Storm didn’t look promising. The follow-up reboot in 2015 with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan sealed the deal.

Marvel Studios teased that the Fantastic Four headed to the Juggernaut panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, and the cast was announced in February. Joseph Quinn, who replaces Johnny Storm as the Human Torch, said he’s a big fan of Evans’ version of the character and needs to do it justice.

“I don’t forget enjoying Chris Evans’ role as Johnny in past films, and I felt it would be an exciting opportunity; I probably signed up,” Quinn told Entertainment Weekly. The actor added that he felt there were big boots to fill and sought out to make the role his own.

“I knew they had been talking about creating the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Universe for a while,” Quinn said. “I had a verbal exchange with [director] Matt [Shakman], and he was very transparent with the guy of other people. They stuck to what they were looking to do with it. There are facets that are unique. thing and one’s own. “

Quinn joins Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Ozark star Julia Garner recently announced as Shalla-Bal, an edition of the cosmic herald, Silver Surfer.

“I think with the Fantastic Four storyline, we feel like we need to get it right,” Quinn continued. “There are facets that are very different from other Marvel movies. I found that very compelling. And again, going back to who is involved, Matt, of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and me. I’ve read it and the script is great. I’m excited to have this opportunity.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
