Mike Flanagan has shared his horror movie picks for those who think they don’t like the genre – but don’t take them too seriously.
The filmmaker shared a directory on social media site Letterboxd titled “Mike Flanagan’s Recommended Horror Portal for Beginners,” writing, “Every once in a while, someone tells me ‘Array doesn’t like horror movies’ and I bite the inside of my cheek. And I smile at them.
“Sometimes they go through ‘what horror videos would you submit to get in smoothly’, or ‘can you come up with any beginner horror videos that look more like REAL videos?’present. “
The first name on the list is Gremlins – so far, very accessible. It is from this point, however, that things turn to the left and become transparent that Flanagan is collectively teasing us. The following recommendations come with the violent martyrs of French horror, Funny Games, which sees a circle of family members subjected to sadistic games through two men who hold them hostage in their holiday home, Imprint, the Mike episode of Takashi’s Masters of Horror, Wes Craven’s first exploitation horror. The Last House on the Left and A Serber Movie, banned in the Philippines, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Norway.
Flanagan, of course, is no stranger to the genre, as director of The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and more. His new television series, The Fall of House Usher, premiered on Netflix last month, marking the director and showrunner’s career. definitive collaboration with the transmitter. All of Flanagan’s next projects, at least in the long term, will be for Prime Video.
Next up for Flanagan is Stephen King’s adaptation of Chuck’s Life, starring Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill. While we wait for your next movie to hit the streamer, check out our selection of movies on Amazon Prime Video to upload to your watchlist.
