MLB News: Texas could host 2020 World Series under new plan

MLB can, however, stick to the examples presented through the NBA and NHL. The latest informed plan for playoffs would be to adopt a regional bubble format to protect groups from spreading the virus.

Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that MLB is reading controlled sites in Southern California and Texas. Under the plan, the American League playoffs would be made through California, while Texas could host the National League.

The most attractive component of this format is that Texas could eventually host the World Series in 2020. MLB is still discussing the plan with the players’ union, and will also be ratified through the owners before moving forward. But the fact that the league is getting a little smarter when it comes to protective groups is certainly a smart thing to do. The first rounds of the playoffs are expected to start in just over a month.

There are two locations in Texas, Globelife Field being one of MLB’s wisest world series picks. The Rangers have just finished their new stadium logo and this is their first year playing there.

The NBA opted for a bubble location in Orlando that proved successful. The difference would be that it is a pretty strict block for basketball, in the sense that no one is allowed to enter or leave the campus without approval. It is not known how MLB would continue with regional locations.
