Opening dates are subject to change.

(B-) George Clooney directs this poignant but predictable drama about the University of Washington rowing team, which overcame major obstacles to win gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It’s a film that looks like it’s in an oil painting. – Well made, pleasing to the eye, and rather dated. With Joel Edgerton, Callum Turner and Peter Guinness. PG-13 (for language and smoking). 124 minutes. Widely distributed.

A woman (Fantasia Barrino) faces many hardships but eventually finds strength in the bonds of sisterhood in the new musical incarnation of Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, which also spawned Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated 1985 film and a Broadway musical. The performances are electrifying, with a fashionable technique that will pay homage to Broadway. If it touches on a dark subject, the movie will make you need to stand up and clap. Also starring Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, and Ciara. PG-13 (for adult-themed content, sexual content, violence, and language). 140 minutes.

(C) FERRARI With his racing empire on shaky ground, driver-turned-entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) pushes himself and his drivers to the limit in the 1957 Mille Miglia, a grueling 1,000-mile race through Italy. Overpowered camera angles and engine sounds create dynamic racing sequences. But the essence of this sublime period drama is about man, not about the machines that bear his name. And that’s a problem, because director Michael Mann doesn’t seem to have imagined finding out what he thinks of the car tycoon. Also starring Penelope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Patrick Dempsey and Jack O’Connell. R (safe content/graphic images, sexual content and language). 130 minutes. Widely distributed.

THE GOLDFINGER After a stock market crash causes the collapse of a major company, an investigator (Andy Lau) uncovers a criminal conspiracy involving the company’s founder (Tony Leung Chiu-wai). In Mandarin and Cantonese with subtitles. Unclassified. 126 minutes. At AMC Stonebriar in Frisco, AMC Grapevine Mills, AMC Firewheel in Garland and Cinemark Legacy in Plano.

ALL OF US STRANGERS A screenwriter (Andrew Scott) forges a relationship with a mysterious neighbor (Paul Mescal) and then finds that his long-dead parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living in his childhood home.

Fed up with the status quo profiting from “noir” entertainment based on clichés and offensive tropes, a novelist (Jeffrey Wright) uses a pseudonym to publish his own quirky book.

HE WENT THAT WAY In this 1964-set thriller, a serial killer (Jacob Elordi) hitches a ride with a celebrity animal handler (Zachary Quinto) and his famous chimpanzee.

Peter Sarsgaard and Jessica Chastain star in this drama about two hurt people trying to make a connection after their best school reunion.

In this horror thriller, a family moves into a new space with a dark secret in the pool. Starring Wyatt Russell, Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, and Gavin Warren.

This ancient South Korean drama tells the story of Yi Sun-shin’s last naval war in 1598, the Japanese invasions of Korea. In Korean with subtitles.

RACE FOR GLORY: AUDI VS. AUDI AUDI LANCIA Daniel Brühl and Riccardo Scamarcio star in this true David vs. Goliath story about the intense motorsport struggle between Germany (Audi) and Italy (Lancia) in the 1983 World Rally Championship.

WAR PONY This drama features the interlocking stories of two young Oglala Lakota men (Jojo Bapteise Whiting and LaDainian Crazy Thunder) growing up on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

ANIMAL Ranbir Kapoor stars as a man willing to employ violence to protect his father in this action thriller from India. In Hindi with subtitles. Not rated. 202 mins.

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell star in this comedy about two young adults who go on a great first date and watch their relationship temporarily deteriorate. When they meet together at a destination wedding in Australia, they make the decision to pose as a couple. R (for full language, sexual content, and brief graphic nudity). 100 minutes.

AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM As he works to plan his wedding, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) forms an unlikely alliance with his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) while contending with the threat of Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Also starring Ben Affleck and Nicole Kidman. PG-13 (for sci-fi violence and some language). 124 mins.

(A) THE BOY AND THE HERON In this exquisite animated story from Studio Ghibli legend Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Spirited Away), a young man ventures into a shared global world through the living and the dead. Even by Miyazaki’s high standards, the film seems astonishing; Almost each and every impeccably framed composition can simply be a distinct work of art. The Boy and the Heron will probably prove more stimulating for children than most of the director’s productions, but generations who grew up with his animated stories will find it loaded. with meaning. Featuring the voices of Luca Padovan, Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan and Willem Dafoe. PG-13 (for violent content/gory photographs and smoking). 124 minutes.

DUNKI Four friends from a Punjab village make their dream of travelling to England come true in this Indian comedy-drama from director Rajkumar Hirani. In Hindi with subtitles. Uncategorized. 160 minutes.

(C) FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S The Chuck E. -inspired phenomenon. Video game author Scott Cawthon’s Cheese is set in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where menacing animatronic creatures rule the position at night. Players take on the role of night security guard Mike, watching to stay alive. This theatrical edition of the game, starring Josh Hutcherson, is undecided as to its intentions. To earn a PG-13 rating, the filmmakers steered clear of the carnage and turned to new films faithful to Mike’s horrific formative years and his attempt to retain custody of his younger sister (Piper Rubio). The film is intended to be a tender edit of Saw, with the faces open but the camera cutting just before impact. The premise would have made more sense as an R-rated welcome party. . PG-13 (for highly violent content, gory imagery and language). 110 minutes.

(A-) With a captivating story and action-packed atmosphere in the city, this monstrous reboot of a B-movie from Japan marks the culmination of the long-running Godzilla series. Despite a few passages in an uneven melodrama, Takashi Yamazaki’s considered script holds its own and is peppered with charming humor at just the right time. In Japanese with subtitles. PG-13 (for violence and creature action). 125 minutes.

(A) THE HOLDOVERS Alexander Payne’s misfit Christmas movie, set in 1970, centers on a trio of newcomers who form an unlikely bond during Christmas vacation at a Massachusetts boarding school. Professor Mr. Hunham (Paul Giamatti), student Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa) and cafeteria principal Mary (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) embark on an unexpected emotional journey, but it’s not just the story of a circle of discovered relatives that remain combined: it is a snapshot of a moment in time. The Holdovers is an instant addition to the Christmas movie canon. R (for language, some drug use and brief sexual content). 133 minutes.

(C-) The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Ongbids and Snakes In this austere prequel set six decades before Katniss Everdeen volunteered to pay homage to The Hunger Games, Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) frames a young tribute (a feisty and Rachel Zegler) to the flawed District 12. It’s hard to create much plot about whether a teenager in love with a probable ethical compass from the company will betray those who believe he is sincere to him and turn to the dark side when his calling is Coriolanus Snow and We Know This From 4 Previous Movies: That He Will Become An Evil Overlord. Also starring Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Hunter Schafer, and Jason Schwartzman. PG-13 (for highly violent and disturbing content). 157 minutes.

(B) THE IRON CLAW This realistic sports drama tells the real-life story of the Von Erich brothers, who began their professional wrestling careers in North Texas and made a call in the early 1980s. Writer/director Sean Durkin tells the heartfelt story of a circle of family members who grieve for their legacy in the midst of unspeakable tragedies, and the combat scenes and recreation of the Dallas Sportatorium are well done. Starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, Stanley Simons, and Holt McCallany. 132 minutes.

This musical adventure intertwines ancient Christmas tunes with humor, religion, and new pop songs into a telling of the story of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus. PG (for thematic elements). 98 minutes.

(C) THE WONDERS The stakes seem incredibly low in Wonders, and it’s conceivable that somewhere along the way, Marvel videos simply stopped looking for similar events. Director Nia DaCosta’s galactic trifle doesn’t seem to be the one that will make them feel inevitable again. Iman Vellani (as Mrs. Marvel/Kamala Khan) is having her big moment and making it, as is Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau). The female-led cast also includes new villain Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton). and the returning hero, Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). DaCosta, working with Marvel for the first time, helps maintain power and the story moves quickly, yet the film pokes fun at danger without feeling that anyone is in danger. danger. Vellani is the real star, a refreshing human presence. PG-13 (for action/violence and short language). 105 minutes.

(B-) In this animated adventure comedy, the ducklings try to convince their overprotective father to take them to Jamaica for the vacation of a lifetime. The migration is very lively, with warm cartoon tones that would make Lucas proud. But it never literally spreads its wings. Stories of overly cautious mothers or fathers who turn adventurers into precisely new material, even if it’s atypical that a helicopter parent can actually fly. Featuring the voices of Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key, David Mitchell, Carol Kane, Caspar Jennings, Tresi Ghazal and Danny DeVito. PG (for action/danger and slightly crude humor). 92 minutes.

(B) NAPOLEON Joaquin Phoenix stars in director Ridley Scott’s gripping and quirky epic about the fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. It is a vast ancient tapestry with a damning, almost satirical portrait of its protagonist, portrayed as impulsive and thin. Raw skin. Also starring Vanessa Kirby, Rupert Everett and Ludivine Sagnier. R (for strong violence, macabre images, sexual content and brief language). 158 minutes.

After being brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist (Willem Dafoe), a young woman (Emma Stone) goes on the run with a libertine lawyer (Mark Ruffalo) on an odyssey of self-discovery and sexual liberation. Stone offers surprising functionality and is perhaps the only actress who can convincingly convey simultaneous expressions of sincerity, absurdity, intelligence, libidinousness, and humor in director Yorgos Lanthimos’ masterpiece. R (for strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore and language). 141 minutes.

(B-) Inspired by a 2013 Wired magazine article, this school drama uncovers a glimmer of optimism when it is directed at our children. Written and directed by Christopher Zalla, the film is set in Matamoros, Mexico, where gangs have left bloodlines on each and every street corner. In this volatile environment, Sergio (Eugenio Derbez) is hired to teach at an elementary school, where he does anything unorthodox: he must tell students what they need to learn. Their strategies take a turn for the worse, but when they work, a completely new long term becomes possible. In Spanish with subtitles. PG-13 (for highly violent content, thematic materials, and strong language). 125 minutes.

RENAISSANCE: A BEYONCÉ MOVIE This concert film captures pop superstar Beyoncé’s global outing experience in 2023. Unqualified. 168 minutes.

SALAAR: PART 1 – CEASEFIRE In this action drama set in India, a gang leader seeks to fulfill a promise made to a dying friend by confronting gangs of criminals. In Telugu with subtitles. Unqualified. 172 minutes.

(B-) SALTBURN A student (Barry Keoghan) at Oxford University is invited to spend the summer at a classmate’s sprawling estate in this fun but derivative take on class envy. Director Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) lifts liberally from The Talented Mr. Ripley in this revenge thriller that’s all surface cleverness, with nothing terribly insightful to say. Still, it’s often wickedly funny and wildly enjoyable. Also starring Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant. R (for strong sexual content, graphic nudity, language throughout, some disturbing violent content and drug use). 127 mins.

THE SHIFT After an encounter with a mysterious stranger (Neal McDonough) alters his reality, a man (Kristoffer Polaha) embarks on an adventure through a dystopian world with his wife (Elizabeth Tabish). PG-13 (for violence) and thematic elements). 115 minutes.

A tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) sets out to take revenge on the criminals who killed his young son in this mystery from director John Woo. The credits are to Woo and screenwriter Robert Lynn, as well as Kinnaman’s fiercely imposing and intense physical functionality. that the lack of discussion in the film proves to be a gimmick but an advantage. R (for heavy bloody violence, drug use, and a bit of language). 104 minutes.

(B) TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR Expect there to be plenty of enthusiasts for the film edition of Taylor Swift’s hugely popular Eras Tour. To fully appreciate the film, an intimate but impressive documentary about Swift’s record-breaking winning lap over the past year, the most productive thing is to simply indulge in the whole: the shiny cowboy hats, the boots, the friendship bracelets, and the scream (there will be plenty of screaming). Filming Swift’s engagement at SoFi Stadium outside Los Angeles, the film begins with a brief shot of the arena with a drone, then heads to the stage, where dancers appear to flap giant wings, a dazzling transition to Swift’s arrival in a crystal-encrusted suit and matching boots. With its elaborate sets, special effects and props, the concert unfolds in chapters as Swift builds the exhibition to a rewarding, even cathartic climax, recharging it with her most triumphant albums, adding Red, 1989, Folklore and the recent Midnights. Unclassified. 168 minutes.

A killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts, in this gory horror film from director Eli Roth. The script is poorly crafted, the movement from scene to scene makes little sense, and the story seems dated (the film’s concept began as a joke trailer for Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 double feature film Grindhouse). Starring Nell Verlaque, Addison Rae, Rick Hoffman, Gina Gershon, and Patrick Dempsey. R (for strong bloody terror, violence and gore, ubiquitous language and sexual material). 107 minutes.

In this hilarious and mind-bending animated sequel, Poppy (Anna Kendrick) discovers that Branch (Justin Timberlake) has a secret past: he was once part of a boy gang with his brothers. When one of the brothers is kidnapped, they go into hero mode. Full of witty one-liners and aphorisms, the film embraces its own nonsense. It also features the voices of Camila Cabello, Eric André, Amy Schumer and Andrew Rannells. PG (for a bit of crude and suggestive humor) . 92 minutes.

12. 12: THE DAY This political drama is about the 1979 assassination of South Korean President Park Chung Hee, a questionable figure who took the force in a military coup in 1961 before being elected to office two years later. Uncategorized. 141 minutes.

In this animated musical, a teenage woman (voiced by Ariana DeBose) demands situations from an overbearing wizard (voiced by Chris Pine) who has been hoarding the wishes of his constituents in the tower of his castle. Disney’s automythological film depicts an awkward marriage between old and new paths: He, symbol of authority and empire; That’s a sense of revolution and community. The film is loaded with its attempts to revel in Disney nostalgia while soaring into the future. PG (for thematic elements and comfortable actions). 92 minutes.

(B) WONKA Timothée Chalamet stars in this origin story of Willy Wonka, the eccentric chocolatier at the center of Roald Dahl’s iconic children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s a fun, old-fashioned film that sands off all the rough and dark edges of Wonka’s character in what may be the squarest large-scale Hollywood musical in decades. Also starring Hugh Grant, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson and Olivia Colman. PG (for some violence, mild language and thematic elements). 116 mins.
