One Piece is starting a fresh journey.

Netflix announced on Sunday that the manga series is being adapted for a new anime series, The One Piece, which is currently in production.

The One Piece team said in a statement that the new adaptation will be distinct from the TV anime series that has aired for more than 25 years. The upcoming series “aims to offer audiences an experience that is new and familiar, employing state-of-the-art visual generation to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga,” the production committee revealed.

Written by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece has sold more than 510 million comics worldwide and has been published weekly in Japan since 1997. The manga series follows the exploits of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate with special and rubbery abilities. With the help of his gang, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy searches for the elusive “One Piece” treasure in hopes of one day becoming the Pirate King.

A live-action adaptation debuted on Netflix on Aug. 31 and was renewed for a second season in September. The series, starring Iñaki Godoy, reached the No. 1 spot on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Chart the week of August 28, with a total of 1. 3 billion minutes watched. in 8 episodes. It also came in at No. 19 on TVLine’s year-end list of the most productive TV shows of 2023.

Netflix is also adapting the Oda manga, Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation, which will be released in January. According to the description of the animated series, it follows “Ryuma, a samurai entangled in a world disturbed by a menacing force: a dragon capable of unleashing catastrophic destruction on Earth. “
