Netflix: Marvel dubs the streaming service’s new videos this week

Madame Web is new to Netflix this week, as are a few other previous theatrical releases and Netflix originals.

Released through Sony Pictures Entertainment, which owns the rights to some Marvel properties, including Spider-Man and Venom, Madame Web failed to attract a giant audience on its nine-week theatrical excursion that began Feb. 16.

According to The Numbers, Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, earned $43. 8 million in theaters nationwide.

In addition to $56. 4 million in foreign-priced ticket sales, Madame Web generated a foreign total of $100. 2 million, against a production budget of $80 before printing and advertising.

Madame Web earned an “rotten” score of 11% via Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 246 reviews, while 1,000 verified users gave it an unbiased audience score of 57%.

Madame Web makes its Netflix debut on Tuesday.

Here’s a look at some of the videos that will debut on the streamer this week.

Released independently in 2018 through IFC Films, The Cloverhitch Killer is a mysterious crime drama.

The Cloverhitch Killer stars Charlie Plummer as Tyler Burnside, a 16-year-old boy living in a small town in Kentucky who stumbles upon a disturbing photograph similar to paintings of a serial killer who stalked his paintings online 10 years earlier.

Dylan McDermott and Samantha Mathis play Tyler’s parents, Don and Cindy.

The Cloverhitch Killer, which is rated, will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday.

It took 20 years after the release of the 1994 hit comedy Two Very Dumb Fools for the not-so-boring duo Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) to return to the big screen together for more silly adventures in the sequel. Very dumb fools. Dumber To (yes, To is the way it’s written, since it’s a Two Very Dumb Fools movie).

Like the original film, the sequel tells the comic misadventures of Lloyd and Harry and is co-directed by brothers Bobthrough and Peter Farrelly.

And while the sequel is just as “silly,” so to speak, as the original Dumber movie, Dumb and Dumber To couldn’t reflect the monetary good fortune of its predecessor.

According to The Numbers, the original film Dumb and Dumber grossed $246. 4 million at the global box office, while Dumb and Dumber To grossed much less with a total of $156. 5 million.

Rated PG-13, Dumb and Dumber To debuts Thursday on Netflix.

Before directing Universal Studios’ blockbuster reboot of The Invisible Man in 2020, filmmaker Leigh Whannell channeled his energies into the futuristic sci-fi revenge story.

Logan Marshall-Green plays Grey, a mechanic who becomes quadriplegic in an attack that kills his wife Ahsa (Melanie Vallejo).

Once Gray receives a computer chip implant that restores all of his motor functions, his “upgrade” allows him to search for the other culprits in Asha’s murder.

The R-rated Upgrade will premiere on Netflix on Thursday.

Netflix original Thelma the Unicorn is an animated film adaptation of the 2017 bestseller of the same call via the Aaron Blabey children’s ebook.

Billed as an animated adventure comedy, Thelma the Unicorn, starring singer Brittany Howard in the title role, naturally features musical elements as the film follows Thelma’s path to pop music greatness.

The voice includes Jon Heder, star of Napoleon Dynamite, and Will Forte, former star of Saturday Night Live and The Last Man on Earth.

PG-rated Thelma the Unicorn premieres Friday on Netflix.

Among the movies already released on Netflix in May on the streaming service are Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix Resurrections and Matt Damon’s The Great Wall, as well as the Netflix original comedy Unfrosted, starring Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy and Jim Gaffigan.
