Netflix added the action thriller “Renegades” film on February 1, and the most sensible 10 has not lost time in action. “
On paper, it’s easy to see why “Renegades” is suddenly trending on the streaming service: an intriguing premise involving Navy SEALs, a hidden treasure, and explosive set pieces should make for a thrilling watch. Plus, with Luc Besson (of “Taken” and “The Fifth Element” fame) attached as a co-writer, you’d expect something at least entertaining.
The problem is… critics and audiences weren’t exactly thrilled when it first hit theaters back in 2017. In fact, “Renegades” holds some seriously rough reviews, with many calling it “aggressively dumb” and “messy.” And that’s not even mentioning its rocky road to release.
Filmed in 2015, “Renegades” faced several delays before even though everything went to theaters two years later. It has also undergone several call replacements. Alcald “The Lake”, then recalled “Renegades”, to remember “American renegades” before their release in the United States. The last call replacement seemed to be an attempt to appeal more directly to the American public, it did not stay.

“Renegades” follows a Navy Seals team that discovers a lost treasure in the back of a Bosnian lake while he is in a secret mission.
Located in 1995, the story revolves around an elite agents organization directed through Matt Barnes (Sullivan Stapleton), which falls into a value of Nazi gold cache of millions of dollars. The problem? It is hidden under a flooded city of war, and recovery will not be easy.
To complicate additional issues is its meaningless commander, Admiral Levin (J. K. Simmons). As expected, the Admiral offers a lot of sudden and enraged authority while trying to maintain his reckless team in the row. When they take out an unauthorized operation to recover the gold and return to the local population, the enemy forces are persecuted and the race opposed time before their project (and career) are absolutely sunk.
Honestly, criticism and public have nothing to say about the “renegades. ” The film has an unfortunate critical score of 11% in Rotten Tomatoes, and the auditory score of 41% is a little better, it is not a vote of trust. Combine this with its boring functionality at the box office, and it is transparent that this mystery of action has fluid without tracking.
Noel Murray from Los Angeles Times said: “Quale and his crew clearly want this to be a good old-fashioned two-fisted caper, but the pacing is leaden and the plot lacks imagination. Worst of all, nobody really bothered to give the picture an angle. It’s all straight, flat and dull.”
Meanwhile, Tim Cogshell of Filmweek said it was a “mishmash of a hundred videos you’ve noticed before. “
In his 2-star review for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw labeled it as just “average,” and said: “There is a spectacular scene in which someone drives a tank off a bridge, and JK Simmons gives the film some ballast as the guys’ scowling commanding officer, but the rest of the time this resembles a TV movie of egregious averageness.”
If you are a fan of the Thrillers and the “renegade” look like your type of film, know that you have some positive criticisms. Jeffrey M. Anderson de Common Sense Media praised that it was a simple clock: “Another of compact and gentle action movies through Luc Besson, has too much courage, however, finally discovers its trace and supplies a measure of fools and dumb and dumb and dumb.
In general, the general consensus turns out that “renegades” are not an observation value.
