EXCLUSIVE: After giving new life to the Scream franchise, James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment will do the same with the intellectual property of vintage comedy. Sources tell Deadline, Project X received the rights to The Nutty Professor, The Classic Jerry Lewis comedy that Eddie Murphy restarted in the 1990s.
No study is attached because Project X will get excited before putting it on the market. Even with Vanderbilt’s long delight in writing scripts for classics like The Rundown, Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man, right now he’s just generating and there’s no resolution on one or the other talent.

Professor Nutty is thought to be one of the ancient comedies of Lewis’ past and follows a taste instructor who, in his love life, drinks a potion that temporarily makes him the handsome but unpleasant Buddy Love. The film restarted in 1996 through Universal and asked Murphy not only to play the instructor and his adapted ego Love, but also to play the other five members of the instructor’s family. This film was a huge fortune and resulted in the sequel, The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, which premiered in 2000.
This turns out to be the best time to revive intellectual assets, as industry studio executives see comedy as the genre the public is looking for because of the COVID-19 pandemic that has uprooted the lives of many others around the world.
The mapping marks the time when the top assets in 2020 that Project X will revive with its newly landed scream photo at Paramount for distribution. They called their control team Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who led Ready Or Not who produced Vanderbilt and Shera, to direct and bring back the original cast that includes Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette to perform.
Vanderbilt and Project X take over WME.
