The annual New Freedom Fest, the largest fundraising event in the community, is the most recent of a number of occasions that were canceled in York County due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event, which includes food, art, music and dancing, while increasing the budget of the Heritage Museum of New Freedom and Freedom Green Community Park, was originally scheduled for September 19.
“We hate to do it,” said Jim Holley, president of New Freedom Heritage Inc. “But it’s for the smarts of everyone who canceled.”

Holley noted that the occasion in the municipality of less than 5,000 more people gathered another 2,500 people from all over the region a year.
Due to the nearby nature and collection restrictions imposed by Gov. Tom Wolf, the New Freedom Heritage Board voted to cancel the event, he said.
