New Mecha Anime ‘Bang Bravern’ Goes Full ‘Gungriffon’ In Latest Trailer

The upcoming mecha anime Bang Bravern, directed by the legendary Masami Obari, will be out this January and has a very Gungriffon-esque trailer.

The latest trailer (shown below) reveals more of how the anime works and specifically that of the treatment of the mecha.

Obari has been interested in dynamic mecha animation, with very athletic redesigns and poses. However, his experience with Mecha Animation has been 2D.

The interesting thing with Bang Bravern is the fact that the mecha side of things is full on 3D CG this time around.

Naturally, I’m curious to see how Obari will handle this approach, since the series also uses a hybrid setup for the characters. In this, the characters are animated in a classic 2D manner, while the mechas are done in 3D.

For most modern mecha anime, this is pretty common but it’s interesting to see Obari go this route.

The other wonderful facet of Bang Bravern is that it goes in the military direction of the robot in terms of taste and environment. So much so that the new trailer looks very familiar for the opening of Gungriffon Blaze (shown above), the mecha also stores a bit of functional similarity.

Anyway, we have a new anime mecha that promises to look forward to in January.
