HBO’s The Last of Us took over our lives last year, and we already want to know when more episodes of the post-apocalyptic drama will hit the screens.
The series, based on the video game of the same name, stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie as they try to survive the infectious zombie apocalypse that has taken over the world as we know it.
So, will the HBO series have a second season? From the date to the cast and more, here’s everything you want to know about The Last Of Us season two.
In November 2023, HBO boss Casey Bloys to Deadline that The Last Of Us season 2 will be released in 2025, alongside other shows like The White Lotus.
Then in January 2025, it was shown that the next episodes would arrive in April. See you more, team!
You’re in luck, after months of anticipation, HBO has finally released the first trailer for the second season of The Last of Us on 26th September.
In the trailer, we get our first look at some of the new cast members, adding Young Mazino as Jesse and Kaitlyn Denver as Abby. There’s a sweet moment where Ellie learns to play guitar with Joel, and Joel deals with Catherine O’Hara’s character, before all hell breaks loose and we get scenes of Tommy being terrified of something, a large swarm organization. inflamed, other people on fire and Joel. is crying

Ok, we’re so not going to survive this season.
Oooh! Oh 17th May 2024, the official The Last of Us Instagram account shared some teaser photos from the new season, which is now filming. As the caption revealed, “@pascalispunk and @bellaramsey in #TheLastOfUs season 2, now in production. Coming to @HBO and @StreamOnMax in 2025.”
After months of waiting, we finally have some news about what could happen in season two. While attending the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2024, Pedro Pascal was asked by Deadline if Joel’s character arc would deviate from the game (The Last of Us Part II, in fact).
Pedro responded: “Does it deviate from the game? That’s a good question. I think that they’re always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show.
“But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody, and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information as of yet.”
Ok, as much as this has excited us, it also means that we are a long way from seeing the new season if even Pedro doesn’t know what will happen next season.
Season two will star many of the same characters as season one, as well as a couple of key new actors joining the cast.
The Last of Us: Part II sees the introduction of a new character Abby, whose description is: “Abby is a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.” On 8th January 2024, it was confirmed that Kaitlyn Dever from Dopesick and Unbelievable would be taking on the role.
Then, on January 9, 2024, it was announced that the younger Mazino, known for his role in BEEF, would play Jesse, a “pillar of his network who puts everyone’s wishes before his own, at a terrible cost. “
Another user joining the cast is Isabela Marced, who was announced as Dina on January 10, 2023. Sharing the news, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said: “Dina is warm, bright, wild, funny, moral, harmful and immediately adorable.
“You can look for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family. “

Announcing the news on January 28, 2023, HBO revealed that a follow-up season of The Last Of Us will indeed take place. “The adventure continues. #TheLastOfUs will return for some other season in @HBOMax,” they wrote on Instagram.
Previously, series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann revealed that they had already begun making plans for a possible second season, hinting that it would cover the events of the video game sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Season two of The Last of Us is likely to cover a lot of the events in the sequel game Part II. The Part II game is set five years after the events of The Last of Us and sees Ellie and Joel settled down in Wyoming.
They live amongst a group of survivors, however their peace is soon threatened by a violent event. There’s also the arrival of Abby, a soldier who is part of a militia group based in Seattle, whose story intertwines with Ellie’s.
