Paramount Pictures has to take a break from directing some other “Star Trek” movie, nine months after hiring the author of “Fargo” and “Legion” Noah Hawley to write and direct the next installment of the franchise.

The resolution comes five weeks after the studio appointed former 20th Century Fox film director Emma Watts as president of Paramount Motion Picture Group. Paramount did not comment. Sources said Watts has delayed Hawley’s assignment for more clarity on how to deal with the upcoming “Star Trek” film, but added that the assignment has not been abandoned.
