Olivia Wilde will soon enroll in Sony-Verse’s Spider-Verse. EW has shown that the actress and director have pledged to create an untitled Marvel film for the studio.
The details are kept secret lately, but according to Deadline, who first reported the news, Wilde’s film will have a female character, and that character can be Spider-Woman.
Wilde will direct and co-write the film with his writer wife Katie Silberman, who also mocked the news on Twitter with an acrid emoji.
Sony has the rights to a large number of Marvel Comics characters, and Wilde’s film will be inscribed on a developing list of Sony superhero videos that includes Venom, Spider-Man: in the Spider-Verse and the upcoming Morbius (Sony still has custody). Spider-Man with Disney, with Tom Holland’s webslinger appearing in separate videos from Sony and as a component of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe).
If Wilde’s movie turns out to be about Spider-Woman, we’ll have to wait and see exactly what iteration of the character is. In the comics, several other women have dressed over the years under that name, adding Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy and Julia Carpenter, but perhaps the best-known edition is the original Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew, who first appeared. in the comics in 1977.
Wilde made her director’s debut last year with Booksmart, starring Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein, and then directed the mental thriller Don’t Worry, Darling.
