A bunch of wonderful screens just hit Netflix thanks to AMC, adding the old horror survival drama The Terror which I can’t feature enough. Other AMC gems like Dark Winds and Interview With The Vampire have also just landed on the streamer. .
Along with those wonderful series, some less wonderful AMC offerings have also been added. Mediocre Walking Dead spin-off Daryl Dixon was added about a month before the release of Season 2. And the 8 seasons of Fear The Walking Dead also added to Netflix.
It’s arguably the worst thing about The Walking Dead, and in fact, one of the most painfully bad displays I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame, because the first three seasons were pretty smart and season 3 was one of the most productive of all the seasons of The Walking Dead. But when new showrunners took over in Season 4, things temporarily went downhill.
I’m still disappointed by this. Just when the series figured out his groove, it dramatically replaced him. It is slightly recognizable as the same program. Morgan (Lennie James) came over from the main series and became the protagonist of Fear, which completely replaced the tone and direction of the series. I still don’t know why they haven’t just started a new spin-off with Morgan.
The focus on the Clark family – Madison (Kim Dickens), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Nick (Frank Dillane) – has completely changed, with two of the characters written entirely from the series. Anyone who stayed became what I called Morganitas, joining their cult whose motto was “We need to help other people fix the bad things we’ve done. “Each season featured a parade of new villains, each of them becoming more ridiculous and unbelievable.
It’s also a shame because Fear The Walking Dead had so many amazing actors. Even in the last few bad seasons, we’ll see actors like Garret Dillahunt (as the likeable gunslinger John Dorie), Keith Carradine, John Glover, and Matt Frewer. There’s something of a crazy crossover between the cast of this exhibit and Deadwood, with Dillahunt, Dickens, Carradine, Ray McKinnon, and Dayton Callie all Deadwood alumni.
Unfortunately, a strong cast couldn’t make up for the ridiculous writing that managed to get worse each season. In season 7, the survivors were fighting over the construction of an office in a radioactive wasteland. Season 8 introduced an organization that gave everyone bird nicknames. I don’t even know how many ridiculous Mexican confrontations there were last season, but it was pretty absurd. The final season also brought back Kim Dickens’ Madison despite her death in season four (she was almost dead) and Troy. Otto (Daniel Sharman) in a desperate attempt to spice up the ratings.
I still host the first 3 seasons, but just look beyond it if you feel like laughing smartly. It’s such a bad series that it’s almost laughable to watch.
