The update is one of several tweaks Blizzard is planning for Season 10, which is expected to launch in mid-April, adding adjustments to Mythic skins, coin earning, and core gameplay. In particular, it seeks to optimize the way players play Overwatch 2 content, with heroes being one of the main spaces of focus.
Once Season 10 launches, the main barrier to entry will be the tutorial in which players unlock various Overwatch characters. Once the original roster is unlocked, all Overwatch 2 characters will be available, adding Venture. First announced at the Overwatch 2 panel at BlizzCon 2023, Venture is a DPS character capable of burrowing underground. He is introduced as the first non-binary character in the game.
As part of the update, Blizzard also announced that a new Mythic Shop will allow players to paint “past and existing seasonal Mythic Hero skins” as they progress through the Premium Battle Pass.
“You know how much you need to develop each mythic aspect,” explains the developer’s blog highlighting the changes. “So, for example, if you don’t need to fully unlock all of a skin’s color or style variations, you can expand your progression to other Mythic Hero skins. “
Mythic skins are highly customizable skins that were first introduced with the release of Overwatch 2. Traditionally, they can only be unlocked by reaching point 80 of the Battle Pass for a given season. As a component of the new system, older Mythic skins will be added to the store, and Seasonal Mythic skins will be available two seasons after their debut. Mythic skins from seasons 1 through 7 will be available in the store when season 10 launches next month.
In addition to the changes to heroes and mythic skins, Blizzard said Overwatch 2 will add rank resets, the ability to track the progress of each game, and new rewards. It will also be possible to earn coins as you progress through the loose modes and premium tracks in the Battle Pass, which Blizzard says will make them “easier and more consistent to earn. “Blizzard will increase the number of coins players will get for free from 540 to six hundred coins depending on the season.
Finally, Blizzard plans several maps, with Colosseo being overhauled in Season 11, and Royal Circuit, Nunbani, and Havana will remain in later seasons.
Currently in Season 9, Overwatch 2 has gotten a lot of updates since its first release in 2022. Overwatch 2 Season 10 will be released lately on April 16 at 12 p. m. PT, there will be more updates focused on the competitive and defensive matrix coming soon. Blizzard also plans to address disruptive player behavior, grouping restrictions, and more.
