Palau de Les Arts appoints a new music director

Sir Mark Elder appointed the musical director of Palau de Les Arts.

He will resume the role on September 1, 2025, succeeding James Gaffigan, who announced that he would conclude his tenure as music director at the end of the 2024-25 season. Elder will be the musical director until the 2028-2029 season.

He made his debut with the company in 2022. During his first season as Music Director he will conduct two operas and two Symphony programs. During his second season with the company, he will add a third symphony concert to his schedule.

In a press release, the artistic director Jesús Iglesias Noriega said: “Sir Mark Elder is one of the most important names in the foreign musical circuit. His formidable professional career, his immeasurable musical delight in his impeccable professional field, expect an era of excellence, expansion and good fortune for the Valencian Community Orchestra and, also, for the arts. »

Music Director Elder del Hallé from 2000 to 2024 and is now conductor emeritus. He has become the principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2022.
