Parent company Market Basket buys assets from Showcase Cinemas in Seekonk

SEEKONK, Mass. (WJAR) – The company that owns the Market Basket supermarket chain has purchased assets in Seekonk.

The city assessor confirms to NBC 10 News that DeMoulas Super Markets Inc. it bought Showcase Cinemas on Commerce Way for $9. 5 million. The sale closed on July 17.

Includes Target and Kohl’s stores.

NBC 10 News sought comment from DeMoulas and Showcase Cinemas on the property’s long-term plans.

“We verified that the assets are sold and that the theater is ultimately operating on lease with the owner,” Showcase Cinemas told NBC 10 News in a statement.

The movie theater is approximately one mile from a planned Whole Foods store and an existing Stop and Shop supermarket.

In Bristol County, Market Basket has locations in Fall River, New Bedford, Raynham and South Attleboro.
