The Gelder Group has released an update on the £9 million Savoy cinema in Gainsborough.
The allocation was announced earlier this year through the West Lindsey District Council and Savoy Cinemas, after Gelder Group won the contract to build the new complex. Work began in February and is funded through contributions from the council, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, the Levelling Fund and Savoy Cinemas.
Work is being done on the sets surrounding what will be a four-screen cinema, which will serve as commercial and restaurant spaces.
Craig Elston, Gelder Group site director, said: “We are aware of the progress made on the site. Everything is going to plan.
“It’s also glorious that our officials were able to show those advances to the city’s youth at a recent stop at our municipal office in the Guildhall, which offers a fantastic view of the structure of the new cinema,” he said.
“The task is on track to be delivered on time and on budget. The regeneration of the downtown area through the Townscape Heritage Initiative and our Thriving Gainsborough allocation, which includes the new Savoy Cinema, is attracting greater interest from other investors,” he added.
The city’s Thriving Gainsborough 2024 regeneration task is expected to generate footfall and provide a pedestrian link between Marshall’s Yard and the market. This historic setting is also being improved thanks to investment from the Leveling Up Fund and the National Lottery Townscape Heritage Initiative.
James Collington, managing director of Savoy Cinemas, added: “This marks an important step towards our goal of providing the Gainsborough network with a modern cinema equipped with the latest technology, eliminating the need for citizens to venture out to enjoy from other places. the latest blockbuster movies. »
