Things are improving for the film industry, as “Unhinged” debuted Friday with a promising start given that many cinemas across the country are still closed amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Starring Russell Crowe, “Unhinged” premiered in 1,823 North American theaters, making it the largest theatrical premiere since theaters closed, according to Variety.
The media reports that “Unhinged” pocketed $4 million in its first weekend, which would not be impressive overall, but given the few Open American cinemas, that’s a figure to be proud of.

The los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento theaters provided the highest ticketing price for the film, as well as multi-screen theaters in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta and Orlando.
The film’s distribution company, Solstice Studios, plans to expand the film to more than 2,300 in North America until next weekend.
Shari Hardison, Solstice’s distribution manager, said at a reception through the middle that the purpose was to earn $30 million in the photo until the end of his North American tour. The film charges $33 million to produce before marketing and distribution charges.
“We have a lot of stairs to go up, the first steps are encouraging,” said Hardison, who also expressed optimism about achieving the goal.

“The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” a film that recently premiered in theaters but not in the U.S., earned $550,000 on 326 Canadian sites, bringing its total profit to $2 million so far.
The film is expected to be video-on-demand before heading to CBS All Access.
“Telsa” and “The Rental” of IFC Films also performed well in cinemas, earning $42,000 and $108,000 respectively, in addition to their VOD sales.
Meanwhile, “The Tax Collector” has grossed $121,800 in 121 locations in its third week in theaters, but now stands at $813,336 so far.
Other films will also be available for release in theaters in the coming weeks.
Disney’s “The New Mutants” will premiere in theaters Friday and Warner Bros. “Principle.” it will open in countries starting August 26 before opening in the United States on September 3 and China the next day.
Disney’s “Mulan” faced similar challenges, having been scheduled for release this spring, and after several changes to the release date, the studio announced that it would reach its new streaming service, Disney, for an additional fee.
