Science Saru directs new animated film ‘Ghost In The Shell’

In a new trailer, Science Saru will produce a new Ghost in the Shell anime series that may be more faithful to the original manga.

The new trailer (shown below) highlights the appearance of panels from Masamune Shirow’s original manga, which makes me think that this new series may be more faithful to the manga’s taste and tone.

The various adaptations we’ve had over the years, from videos to other animated series, have tended to deviate a bit from animation work. Videos of the manga’s Fuchikomas are missing, and the series calls them Tachikomas.

The artistic taste has also been removed, so it’s appealing that for this trailer we get a more original representation of the manga from the beginning.

The main key image (pictured above) also features an actual Fuchikoma from the manga, which gives me hope that it could be a more faithful adaptation.

No one knows if the definitive series will retain this taste and artistic approach, but Science Saru is used to being very faithful to the main works it adapts.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken is a clever example of this, as the anime series strangely comes close to Sumito Owara’s original manga.

Admittedly, we got some wonderful animation for the old PlayStation game Ghost in the Shell, which is much closer to the manga. So it would be wonderful if we could have something like this for a whole series.

Aside from the news that the anime will be released sometime in 2026, we don’t know much else than that Science Saru is the production and Production I. G is part of the production committee.

Anyway, after the terrible live-action movie Ghost in the Shell, I’m glad we have more anime and anything that feels true to the host’s work. If you’re curious about the original manga, you can check out my reviews here and here.
