Dear Colleagues, After 35 years in the studio, Adrian Smith has made the decision to retire at the end of this month. Adrian is one of the toughest executives in the industry and his retirement is well deserved. His contribution to the studio’s success was notable. Since taking over as President of Distribution in 2013, Adrian has orchestrated the domestic release of 47 number one films, including Spider-Man: No Way Home (the third highest domestic grossing film of all time), Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle and the Venom trilogy. , the Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its Oscar-nominated sequel: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Uncharted, The Woman King, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Bullet Train, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Equalizer Trilogy, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Spectre, The Angry Birds Movie, 22 Jump Street, Evil Dead, The Magnificent Seven, No Breathe, War Room, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Goosebumps, Think Like a Man Too, Spider-Man: Homecoming and many more. Since leaving Sony Pictures, Adrian has made more than 1,025 releases across all labels, 202 of which were number 1 at the domestic box office. Most recently, he helped direct Bad Boys, the animated Spider-Verse films, Hotel Transylvania, Ghostbusters and the multi-billion-dollar Venom franchises, and helped propel the Spider-Man films with Tom Holland to a combined $4 billion. . Needless to say, Adrian is one of the most productive in the business. It has been an honor to consider Adrian not only as a colleague over the years, but also as a friend, and it will be difficult to believe in Sony without him. Fortunately, he led an incredible team and, for that reason, I am delighted that Adam Bergerman has been promoted to President of Distribution.   Adam has been involved in the domestic release of all of the studio’s films for over 28 years after joining the company in 1996 as booker, sales manager and district manager for the Eastern Division of the New York office. He moved to Culver City in 2012 as executive vice president of the Western Division, before being promoted to executive vice president and general sales manager in 2017. Adam has played a key role in the success of several major Sony releases, totaling 8 Live action versions. The Spider-Man films, as well as the two animated Spider-Verse films, the 4 Men in Back films, and the James Bond films Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre. His breadth of wisdom and experience has been and will continue to be important to the studio and I look forward to the years to come. Adrian has asked me to share the following with all of you: After 35 incredible years with Sony Pictures, the time is right to say goodbye with deep gratitude and a whole heart. This has been a heartbreaking decision, but I have had the privilege of growing up here alongside so many extraordinary colleagues and I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish with our exhibit spouses during some of the most difficult times. . complicated that this industry has ever known. seen. As I face the next bankruptcy of my life, I bring with me a deep love for this company and all it represents. I am grateful to Tom and Josh for accepting the opportunities they gave me. I will be grateful to my wife, Linda, for her understanding and help for more than three decades. I will cherish the friendships I have made here and am honored to pass the baton to my brilliant friend, colleague and husband Adam Bergerman. Josh
