Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker won disappointing reviews and performed lower at the box office. But many enthusiasts see the return of Emperor Palpatine as the fatal flaw in its history. However, the film is not the first time Lord Sith has returned from the grave. So why did this Star Wars twist leave some dissatisfied enthusiasts?
Ian McDiarmid made his first appearance as Palpatine in Return of the Jedi. And since then, she has re-played the role in the latest editions of The Empire Strikes Back, as well as in the prequel trilogy. But the absent actor from the first two-thirds of the sequel trilogy.
Star Wars enthusiasts were a little surprised to hear their character’s family laugh at the end of the first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker. How is it possible that Palpatine survived his fall into a reactor at the time the death star, which exploded soon after?
In the end, “the dark aspect of the Force is a trace of many talents that some opened.” That’s all The Rise of Skywalker has to offer. However, instead of allowing Kylo Ren’s depraved trajectory to stay on track, the film has returned to the ultimate Star Wars villain.

Casual enthusiasts have been baffled by Palpatine’s resurrection. But diehard Star Wars enthusiasts know that the emperor has an affinity for immortality. In particular, the 1991 comedy book series Dark Empire sees it go backwards in the same way, thanks to cloning.
This generation is new to the saga, of course. A new hope refers to the “war of the clones”, an era that has extended absolutely since the pre-era. And The Rise of Skywalker, as enthusiasts have learned since, turned to cloning to revive Palpatine in time for the grand final.
Some other hateful people in The Rise of Skywalker betray George Lucas’s original vision. However, according to Games Radar, the resolution of introducing a Palpatine clone into Dark Empire came directly from Lucas. Writer Tom Veitch showed this once, claiming that Lucas had proposed Palpatine as an option for someone else’s Darth Vader costume.

As a component of the expanded Star Wars universe, Dark Empire hit the cannon when Disney bought Lucasfilm. Only Star Wars: The Clone Wars and live action videos have been wareed from the “Legends” label. However, the outrage of fans over Palpatine’s return to The Rise of Skywalker raises the question of why so many other people think it doesn’t work.
Part of this response comes from the fact that top enthusiasts still don’t know Star Wars EU. As many enthusiasts appreciate movies, a relatively small percentage has been immersed in comics, novels and games. The perception of Palpatine’s return is a trap for them, just as Dark Maul’s cameo in Solo took some by surprise.
But there is a much more credible explanation as to why Palpatine’s return does not have the desired impact. The two past films slightly mention the character. After two trilogies that culminated in his confrontation with a young Jedi, enthusiasts, especially those who participated in Kylo Ren’s bow, believed that the saga was repeated. Which, in fact, does. From a secure point of view.
