‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’: the original director of the film admits the fact of its ‘traumatic’ release

Upon its release, some enthusiasts complained that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a messy conclusion to the 42-year-old Skywalker saga. And if the elements of the movie’s story seemed rushed, there’s a clever explanation why. After all, for a long time, J.J. Abrams finished with the sequel trilogy. Then, of course, Star Wars called again.

At this point, Lucasfilm’s director’s upheaval, at least in the Disney era, is extremely well known. Rogue One and Solo have undergone backward artistic adjustments in the scenes. This was also the case with Star Wars: Episode IX.

For years, Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) participated in the direction of the third and final film in the sequel trilogy. But artistic differences led Lucasmovie to fire him from the project. Then J.J. Abrams brought back the entire trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.

The resulting film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, met expectations. In fact, some enthusiasts have complained that Abrams’ film seems too difficult to serve as a direct sequel to The Force Awakens. Naturally, the enthusiasts wondered about Episode IX that it might have been.

Eventually, Trevorrow refocused on Jurassic World. He transferred executive purposes to J.A. Bayonne for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But Trevorrow returns for the next Jurassic World: Dominion. But as he told Collider, that doesn’t make his Star Wars any less disappointing.

I guess the lesson to be learned is that I was very lucky, in the movies I made, the path I was looking to follow and the path that all the other people involved sought to follow were the same. It is quite imaginable that two other people see two completely different trails through the forest. It was just a delight that, obviously, you can imagine, it can go to the point of being traumatic when there’s something near your center and you’ve invested a lot in it.

But that’s one of the things you settle for when you play a component in a movie, especially when you’re a storyteller, there’s going to be anguish. There will be crushing disappointments, then there will be victories and I hope they will finally balance.

From this point of view, it makes a lot of sense for Trevorrow to return to his own franchise. He explains that he left the script for Episode IX. But, of course, enthusiasts had a chance to be informed a little more about what their edition would have been like, Star Wars: Duel of the Fates.

Shortly after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a leaked edition of Trevorrow’s Episode IX script was leaked. Duel of the Fates would actually have taken a very different trail from Abrams. On the one hand, it does not provide the last-minute resurrection of Emperor Palpatine.

But we’ll never know if the enthusiasts would have reacted definitively to the Trevorrow edition in general. The Star Wars fan base might have been dissatisfied with the end of the Skywalker saga. As things stand, enthusiasts will only have to make peace with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
