Starship Troopers: Extermination adds a new enemy from the iconic movie.
In a new dev diary shown at Gamescom’s Future Games Show, via Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, the game’s lead designer, Chaz Barker, brought the Tanker Bug. Barker, a huge, long-lasting, fire-breathing foe, says that Tanker Bug performs a total series of moves that threaten to ruin your day.
“We’re looking to get the Tanker Bug as close to the movie as possible,” says Barker, as this imposing insect stumbles across the landscape. This thing dwarfs the enemies around it, suggesting a desire to use the full power of Starship. Troopers: Extermination’s 16-player squads if you want to see the ending.
Elsewhere in the developer’s diary, the environment’s lead artist, Tami Para, shows a new icy planet for players to liberate. Inhabited by a “meteorite bug”, it is home to creatures that have had time to evolve into their new environment, causing players all sorts of new problems.
Finally, game director Peter Maurice introduces the single-player mode, which he sees as a wonderful way to get acquainted with the game’s huge multiplayer portions. He also previews “a very solid roadmap” for Starship Troopers: Extermination with the game launching on console this fall; Starting October 11, the game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
