Steiner Studios, the well-known sound level operator founded at Brooklyn Navy Yard, decided to identify a 500,000-square-foot film and television production center in Sunset Park that will create thousands of jobs, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, and the media and entertainment mayor’s office announced Thursday.
The assignment will be established at the Bush Terminal on the Sunset Park boardwalk as a component of the Made in New York campus and will feature 8 new sound scenarios, intestinal renovations of two historic buildings and a new car park.
In addition, Steiner Studios will complete the adjacent Bush Terminal Piers Park, build a new community playground and make a $25,000 contribution to the park’s recreational programs.
“Television production is a thriving industry in New York, and this allocation is helping to revive the city’s economic growth and recovery,” said Doug Steiner, president of Steiner Studios. “We are very happy to have decided and offered 2,200 well-paid jobs and opportunities for Bush Terminal. “
Prior to the announcement, NYCEDC signed a pre-development agreement with Steiner Studios for a long-term lease of land. In addition to personal investments of more than $320 million, New York City will make a contribution of approximately $15 million to site preparation.
Those hired in the complex, once completed, will come with set designers, electricians, level artists, shooters, accessories masters, dressing rooms, hairdressers and makeup artists, and costume designers, among others.
This investment is also expected to create at least 1,800 transitional jobs in the structures sector and be accompanied by a participation rate of 25% of companies owned by minorities and women. Steiner Studios must also recruit qualified HireNYC applicants from the local NYCEDC network.
In addition to creating thousands of jobs and new open public spaces, this allocation will focus on investing in the local workforce and selling diversity and equity in the media and entertainment industry through the following investments:
“This production center will expand diversity and inclusion in the film and television industry, while generating local economic activity, opportunities and job creation in South Brooklyn,” Rep. Nydia M said. Velzquez (D-Brooklyn). I am particularly pleased that Steiner Studios has decided to build the sound scenes and production facilities. Once completed, this task will also offer educational and career pathways in Sunset Park through learning programs, internships, and production assistants.
“Companies are here to stay, they’re redoubled their efforts to build their long term right here in New York,” said James Patchett, president and CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Made in New York’s bush terminal campus, which adds clothing production, film/TV/media production and other soft production facilities, announced through Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2017 Construction was temporarily stopped due to COVID-19 but resumed as of July 2020.
