New York-based Steiner Studios won a multimillion-dollar contract to expand a new film and television production facility in Brooklyn, the mayor announced Thursday.
The Brooklyn-based sound theater operator is about to create a 500,000-square-foot film and television production center on the Made in New York campus at the Bush Terminal in Sunset Park.
At least 1,800 jobs and 2,200 full-time jobs are expected to be created as a result of development.
The agreement marks a major commitment through Steiner Studios to help revive New York’s suffering economy, which is suffering from the blockade of coronavirus as rich New Yorkers continue to flee and national brands close their doors.
Steiner Studios, founded in New York, will create a 500,000-square-foot film and television production center at Bush Terminal’s Made in New York campus in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
New York City Economic Development Corp. has selected Steiner for development
The Bush Terminal location will be Steiner Studio’s first extension since its Brooklyn Navy Yard facility.
The company has operated a 780,000-square-foot production facility there since 2004 and has hosted Amazon’s “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Steiner Studios has signed a predevelopment agreement for a 49-year lease of land at Bush Terminal with five 10-year extensions.
The precise terms of the agreement, and the sums involved, have been disclosed as the agreement is expected to be presented to the board of directors of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) next month.
