With Broadway still closed, Netflix is doing for the cinema network what he and other streaming have done for cinema: delivering content that can’t be seen where it was originally planned. On Wednesday, the Los Gatos-based company announced that it would broadcast a specially filmed edition of “Diana: A Musical”, a new exhibition on the British princess, before her Broadway debut.

“Diana” began the premieres on March 2, with its scheduled premiere for March 31 at the Longacre Theatre, which will be closed because of Covid-19.

It will be recorded without an audience at the Longacre next month and will feature the original Broadway cast, adding Jeanna de Waal as Diana, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth. A promotional message added to Wednesday morning of the musical said it would “arrive on Netflix in early 2021.”

Christopher Ashley, the director of La Jolla Playhouse, where the exhibition was born, is the director of the musical, which presents a book, music and lyrics through Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, winners of the 2010 Tony Awards for “Memphis”. The new display capitalized to $17,750,000.

“We speak on behalf of the total corporation when we say that we couldn’t be more excited that we can nevertheless share our exhibition with theater enthusiasts around the world,” said top producers Beth Williams, Frank Marshall and Araca. Group, in a joint statement. Array “While there is no replacement for live theater, we are revered to be a component of the quality entertainment netflix provides to its subscribers worldwide.”

The announcement indicated that the musical was scheduled to premiere on Broadway, now on May 25, 2021.

And on another Wednesday, Actors’ Equity Association, the national union, said he had approved a security plan that will allow actors to ‘Diana’ rehearse, record an album and level a feature to record. With very few exceptions, the union prohibited its members from acting live during the pandemic, arguing that it jeopardized their safety.

The plan’s provisions come with initial and recurring testing, an isolation protocol for actors and level managers, and modifications to the theater’s air conditioning formula to make some ventilation of the building.

Netflix has already performed plays on its service, broadcasting “American Son”, with Kerry Washington, in 2019. Ryan Murphy is looking for the full film adaptation of the Broadway musical “The Prom,” starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman. Andrew Rannells and Keegan-Michael Key, scheduled for 2020.

Disney demonstrated last month that consumers would watch theatrical content on their home screen with pleasure, with the adaptation of “Hamilton” to download the service on the first weekend of July 4 through 74%.
