Supes, county and city leaders support Hidden Woods music festival

The Hidden Woods Music Festival, scheduled for Aug. 23-24, features high-profile performances through Kaleo, The Fray Lit, Hinder, Secondhand Serenade and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The overall lineup includes 4 No. 1 hits, two Grammy Award nominations, a Billboard Music Award and several platinum certifications.

The festival also features live music and local games during the day, on-site camping for festival-goers, food and produce vendors, an after-party, and the world’s smallest pub crawl.

The considerations concerned alcohol, security and noise issues that were discussed and resolved at a face-to-face meeting between the parties involved on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s special supervisory board meeting. Tuesday’s meeting began with a closed consultation discussion with suggestions related to possible exposure to litigation. of administrators has not taken any action to inform.

District Four Supervising President Aaron Albaugh asked Principal Kaitlyn Midgley about protection at the event.

“We were going to meet with the police chief, the fire department and the sheriff,” Midgley said. “We saw how many other people were attending the show. I know I’ll have to ensure the level protection to make sure no one rushes to the level. We will also have security patrols everywhere. I have been in contact with Ardent Security in the Redding area.

He said Ardent would provide 15 security guards.

He also noted that the bars would be run through the Lassen County Cattlemen and, in all likelihood, the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce.

During the public consultation that followed, several public officials discussed an assembly held on Monday related to the festival in which officials said their considerations had been resolved.

City Manager Dan Newton and Susanville Public Safety Chief Mike Bollinger were out in the hallway during the meeting, and Albaugh invited them to the ongoing meeting.

“It’s a new and different position that has never happened here before,” Albaugh told Newton. “It’s taking place at the city fairgrounds, and I’m curious to know if the city has any considerations or issues that they’d like to see addressed or if they’ve all been answered. “

“I was talking to our head of public outdoor protection and I asked him – I didn’t attend the meeting – but I have a feeling, based on that conversation, that all of our concerns were addressed at the meeting regarding the occasion. Safety. basically (and) noise. I think it’s a good idea to include a noise permit in the city and we can also use it to offer some policy for the occasion in case of residential complaints. Everything is in order. All rentals have been factored. . . The City is very grateful for the efforts of the fair manager in taking advantage of this occasion and selling it within our community. I think it brings a lot of economic benefits, and I think the city and county deserve to be very involved and interested in how this benefits local businesses. . . I also appreciate the board’s help. “

Lassen County Sheriff John McGarva addressed the meeting.

“First of all, I feel like I want to complement Kaitlyn in her efforts on this,” McGarva said. “She and I have been talking about this since the show, and we can see this moving forward in conjunction with Chief Bollinger in town. We have talked about our fears about the introduction of alcohol into crowds, and there will be fears. I think everyone can legitimately perceive it. My fear is that I simply want this to be done as responsibly as possible. There is also a certain amount of personal responsibility that people will need to have when addressing these things. We will be there, we will do guided tours. We cannot dedicate full-time staff to this. I have 4,600 square miles of county to manage. I can’t dedicate two days just to the kids at the fairgrounds. . . Honestly, the event, depending on what demographic we’re talking about, how much they’re going to pay to get in (tickets are $75 a day), is There will be a different audience than which we rarely see at the fairgrounds, or even at the races or elsewhere. My fears were pretty well addressed yesterday. We were able to talk about safe things. We talk about security. I was talking to Kaitlyn last night about other features to improve security without involving law enforcement. . . I don’t expect any big problems.

County Administrative Office Richard Egan highlighted some administrative efforts that are wanted at the county level. He said the planned spending for the festival would require a budget adjustment and would be approved through the board.

Midgley said the expenses are included in the budget year that begins Aug. 1, but that budget has not yet been approved by supervisors.
