LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Director Christopher Nolan’s new thriller, “Tenet,” garnered warm reviews Friday as American film networks reopened with industry-wide security measures aimed at reassuring audiences about a pandemic.
“Tenet” is the first big-budget film from a major Hollywood studio to reach theaters since the coronavirus outbreak closed theaters around the world in March.
Ticket sales for the Warner Bros. movie. through AT-T Inc. they will be largely monitored to measure the number of people who will leave their homes to go to the cinema. The film opens in 70 countries from August 26 and in the United States on September 3.
“Tenet” received an 87% approval score on the online page of critics aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, critics said their time diagram was so twisted that it was rarely difficult to follow.
Star John David Washington plays a CIA agent recruited to organize the dark guiding principle that attempts to prevent an apocalyptic event.
The Times of London, the 2.5-hour blockbuster, a “global, impressive and deliciously convoluted blockbuster”, added”.
The New York Times said the film is fun and “hugely comforting in every aspect like a film shot in various locations around the world.”
IndieWire was less impressed and called the film a “humorless disappointment.”
The Hollywood Reporter said “Tenet” had a lot to do. “There will be an audience scrutinizing each and every tweet, complaint and opinion aggregator as they weigh whether they should leave their quarantine bubbles to see it,” he said.
Theaters have opened all over the world. In the United States, primary networks, in addition to Cineworld Plc’s AMC and Regal Cinemas, opened this weekend with limited assistance, masking needs, and other measures to lessen the threat of contracting the disease.
The National Association of Theatre Owners announced Friday that operators of more than 30,000 screens had agreed on a set of procedures.
“Moviegoers want to know that there is a coherent, science-based scenario that revels in protection and fitness protocols, no matter what theater they’re visiting,” said John Fithian, president of the industry group.
