Tesla Roadster production is expected to begin in California next year, Elon Musk

Fans of the Tesla Roadster 2020 sports car who have paid a down payment of $50,000 starting in 2017 for their pre-orders and hope to get the device this year will have to wait at least two more years.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk analyzed the timing of the company’s second-quarter monetary results on Wednesday. It expects production of the 2020 Roadster to begin at the Tesla Fremont plant in California in the next 12 to 18 months. Production is tentatively scheduled to begin between mid-to-2021 with deliveries in early 2022.

Delaying production of the Roadster 2020 will give Tesla more time to produce and deliver its most popular and massive Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup, which will be produced at the soon-to-be-built plant in Austin, Texas. Travis County’s $1.1 billion meeting facility will employ 5,000 people, Musk confirmed.

The Tesla Austin Gigafactory will bring together the Tesla Cybertruck, as the Model AND SUV. Tesla plans to open the plant until the third quarter of this year.

“The location is five minutes from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and 15 minutes from downtown Austin,” Musk said.

Regarding the Roadster 2020, Musk said the beloved sports car was a component of Tesla’s updated product roadmap. Analysts noted that Musk mentions that the Roadster 2020 as a component of the company’s production program is the clearest program given for the planned deployment of the new machine.

The base style of the Roadster 2020 is expected to charge $200,000. On the other hand, the first 1,000 (called Founder’s Series) will be priced at $250,000. Full payment is required to book Founder Series Roadster.

Musk once said the 2020 Roadster was more of a “dessert” for Tesla. He also claimed that the sports car would not have a major effect on electrification due to its maximum price. For Musk, the Roadster 2020 serves as a “slap” to the combustion engine by installing a “halo” car that dominates the superhighway segment.
