Lindsay Lohan has the queen of Netflix movies. She’s also the queen of new Christmas movies in 2024. The former child star has the number one new Christmas movie of the season, and it’s not even close.
His Our Little Secret beats out movies starring Lacey Chabert, a Hallmark classic who has a new Netflix movie, and comedian Jack Black, whose hilarious Christmas movie he scored for Paramount.
This is according to information provided through Samba TV, a TV generation provider for audience insights and omniscreen measurement. Their breakdown of the top 10 new Christmas videos streamed, measured from November 1 to December 10, puts Secret squarely in the lead.
The film attracted 3,293,332 American families during this period. By comparison, the No. 2 new Christmas movie, Chabert’s Hot Frosty, also on Netflix, drew 2,332,865 viewers in the same period.
Our Little Secret may become Lohan’s best film yet on Netflix, where she signed a multi-movie deal. Her previous holiday effort, Falling for Christmas, bowed to 989,000 households two years ago, though that was measured in a smaller window.
Last spring’s Irish Wish, a St. Patrick’s Day-themed film, scored very similar numbers. Clearly, other people are getting used to Lohan during the holidays. And the streaming service has benefited from the semi-annual exposure surrounding Lohan’s comeback after years in which her private life dominated headlines more than her professional accomplishments.
In Our Little Secret, Lohan and an ex unknowingly end up dating siblings, preparing them for an unforeseen Christmas gathering, which leads to an equally unforeseen (to them, the viewers) resurgence of their lover’s emotions.
Netflix has the flagship streaming channel. Like this latter cable network known for its older but wildly popular Christmas stories, Netflix made a major investment in the genre and it paid off.
The service offers six of the seven new Christmas videos of the year. Behind Our Little Secret and Hot Frosty, in which Chabert faces off against a fiery snowman who comes to life, Netflix’s Meet Me Next Christmas (2,052,469 households) and The Merry Gentlemen (1,959,697) come in at No. 3 and 4.
Meet Me Next Christmas features another Netflix holiday romantic comedy stalwart, Christina Milian, as a woman searching for tickets to a sold-out Pentatonix concert and falling in love with her adventure through New York City.
The Merry Gentlemen is a remorseless chance to convince former teen idol Chad Michael Murray to take off his shirt, and it works. He and some men agree to host a Christmas men’s revue to raise money for a failing bar and, yes, have sexual relations with the daughter of the bar owners.
Paramount has only one of the 10 best new Christmas movies, but it’s a false entry. In issue #5, Jack Black’s sweetly funny Dear Santa features a boy who summons Satan (Black) when he wants to write a letter to Santa. The film has posted 1,494,283 homes.
“Dear Santa” star Jack Black helped make the film rank among the top five most sensible new Christmas videos this season.
