Long before he was serious about the Lord of the Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson rose to fame with the no-budget, zombie-based gonzoid comedy Braindead (aka Dead Alive). In the midst of a series of creative strategies to fight a zombie outbreak (p. e. g. , squishing portions of frames in a blender), the sight of our blood-soaked hero, Lionel, taking out a horde of zombies with a gas-powered lawnmower is incredibly over-the-top and utterly hilarious.
There are parts of the 1994 comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective that really haven’t stood the test of time. The reveal of the villain at the end leads to a truly homophobic/transphobic series that helps keep repeating itself, and which today becomes outwardly malicious and unnecessary.
But one thing that dates well is the appearance of Cannibal Corpse, which sees Death Steel stalwarts perform their vintage 1992 Hammer Smashed Face while star Jim Carrey growls and makes his way through a crowd of rainbow trout.
“Jim, at that point, found death steel to be very intriguing,” says Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “We were sitting in our house in Buffalo and they called us Metal Blade (the band’s label) saying, ‘Jim Carrey just called us. He’s making a movie and he needs you to be in it. “At first we had to turn it down because we had to be in Europe for a tour. But one day passed and they called us again: “They need you!”They will rearrange the filming according to their route.
Putting aside any skepticism they might have had, the band flew to Miami for two days to film the scene. Although the intentionally ripped jeans provided through the costume service warned that the filmmakers did not perceive them, at least Ace Ventura himself did.
