We know that the Super Mario Bros. movie is on the way (Nintendo has shown that it’s coming in 2026, no less), but that doesn’t mean we’re done talking about its predecessor just yet. In fact, there’s something new to see.
Jed Diffenderfer worked as a storybook developer and artist on the 2023 Illumination/Nintendo movie, and recently uploaded a new batch of concept art that shows an initial take on some of the film’s memorable moments, as well as some sections that weren’t considered. . I won’t stop (thanks, Nintendo Everything).
The 8 photographs (which you can locate below) show several scenes that movie enthusiasts will recognize: Mario’s first time in a warp pipe, Bowser’s triumph over King Penguin, and more. However, the photographs that caught our attention were the ones we had never noticed before. Yes, we’re talking about Princess Daisy!
In two pieces of concept art, we get to see Daisy in action (in what appears to be a top-of-the-school flashback and climactic battle à la Avengers: Endgame), suggesting that at one point there was at least one concept for fans. of your favorite princess. You can also take a look at other characters like Toadette, a flying blue Yoshi, and is it Toadsworth?What could have been, huh?
To be clear, Daisy’s presence in early concept art doesn’t mean that the character was necessarily undone or even seriously thought of for the film. There’s every chance that Diffenderfer added the princess to some of the rooms just to give her a touch of temperament. on stage on offer and the concept didn’t go any further. Again, there’s obviously no shortage of concepts for the sequel. . .
It’s amazing to see Diffenderfer’s art in so much detail now that we know how the finished product came out. Be sure to check out the artist’s online page to see more of his past paintings, as well as a concept video for a Mario stealth scene. That never made the impression in the final film.
What do you think of this concept art? Would you have liked to see Daisy do the final edit?Let us know in the comments.

Well, with the announcement of the sequel, Daisy has a chance. And Rosalina too.
I’m glad they didn’t pass the “Bowser rejected at Toad High School” arc. Ugh. Horrible idea.
@Zulzar, I agree, that would make Peach and Daisy the boys.
This first clue is so that, in my humble opinion, it would have been more epic than the chase scene in Rainbow Road. Not that this scene wasn’t wonderful, of course!
I proposed to them to go to war by riding Yoshis in the sequel.
@Anti-Matter There’s a precedent in Mario Odyssey: https://www. nintendolife. com/news/2017/09/weirdness_people_just_cant_stop_talking_about_marios_nipples
@Yosher Bongos, get your Bongos here!
PRINCESS Z-DAY YES!
I wouldn’t mind if the whole movie was animated in this art style, it’s beautiful!
@Friendly @Zulzar why, because they rejected it they didn’t like it?
I love this concept art and I love the inclusion of Daisy in general and this cool war scene, but on the other hand, I’m glad they didn’t opt for some of those scenes, especially the one at the prom as @Zulzar and @Friendly mentioned!@Princess_Lilly, the challenge Peach refused Bowser is that she and everyone else laugh at him.
LEGOSuperMario: Mario Kart anunciado@nintendolife
@AmplifyMJ This was announced on March 9.
Maybe the subtitle is “What could have been. Which can still be. “
After all, there’s no explanation as to why Princess Daisy can’t participate in the follow-up.
@Folkloner mdr I missed it completely, it’s ? embarrassing
Finally with my name
@AmplifyMJ https://www. nintendolife. com/news/2024/03/super-mario-mario-kart-lego-releasing-in-2025Ya I wrote an article.
@AmplifyMJ Don’t worry. The original reveal took place in the recent LEGO Super Mario video.
It’s an old Nintendo custom on social media to repost classified ads a few days after release. This makes it possible to give a singular news story its own star, promote it to those who missed it, and generate new conversations.
Personally, I find it more amusing that Mouser has a reference in this concept art.
@BTB20 I’m sitting around thinking I’m following the news ?
@Princess_Lilly @Johnnymind is for laughs
Yes, I can see how “Mushroom High” didn’t make it past Nintendo’s PR team.
If only each and every scene in the final product had been replaced with something better. Lástima. De the Mediocre Bros. sequel
Newly Revealed Mario Movie Concept Art Shows Princess Daisy in Action
“New concept art” implies that concept art is new and relates to a task that has not yet been published.
Source: I’ve been reading magazine ?✌️ articles for a long time
What’s the point of bringing Daisy in, given that the Peach movie almost has Daisy’s personality anyway?If it was up to the level of the movie, I’d kidnap Luigi and Peach and let Mario, Toad, and Daisy have adventures. Mario and Daisy would have something to happen: Mario goes from “normal” Mario to “super” Mario, Daisy is time to mess with the princess “literally who?”to someone who has actually turned out to have what it takes to govern. . Maybe pre-fix it in the Mushroom Kingdom, with Peach going on to nepastiate with Bowser, Daisy saying “okay, I’ll take care of the fort while you pass by” and Peach saying “oh-ho-ho-ho-ho, I know you mean it, honey, but you’re not in a position to do it yet.
You know, this concept art makes me see how scary it can be to go through pipes. A real horror of the body. ” I’m in a hurry!”
I think Daisy will be in the sequel. She is identified in Super Nintendo World. Mario Wonder was his defining moment for Nintendo.
I like the way Luigi runs the plumbing business, at least in the beginning. The one with Mario infiltrating an enemy castle through its pipes is great. Overall, I like how all those illustrations feature more characters in general. This is an area where there is still room for improvement.
@Anti-Matter to me, the sepia tone implies that it’s a flashback scene from when the brothers were teenagers (note the shaggy hair) and Mario laments that he still can’t grow a genuine mustache when Luigi had controlled to start having one. . This would be a great little detail: although Luigi has his vulnerabilities, Mario had his compared to Luigi when he was younger. The truck with the Luigi Bros logo turns out to recommend Luigi, the most popular brother at the beginning of the film. I guess that replaced to have compatibility with their more classic roles.
Or I’m reading too much
@Friendly Since when is rejecting someone a “bad boy”?
@IceEarthGuard laughs and points with his hand as others have already pointed out in the comments
I didn’t even imagine that there would be a classical high school in the mushroom kingdom. . . It kind of makes him feel less fantastical, you know?
@Friendly Sure, but I don’t think this is a “bad boy. “Maybe just a silent “villain”? But it’s probably more productive to use the term “bully. “
Anyway, I’m glad they didn’t go that way with Peach in the movie.
Do Mario and Luigi shave? XDD
I’m interested in how the margarita will be characterized. Peach, in my opinion, took on much of the personality I imagined Daisy would have. I suppose that maybe they depend a lot on the Sarasaland facet and opt for a Spanish or Indian one. the encoded mental eye of it to differentiate it further.
Mario looks like a boy in this photo.
I’m pretty happy, the big generic epic war from Avengers/Ready Player 1 is so mundane now and it’s not Mario at all, the Rainbow Road scene is more unique.
dipper
Is it Perry? Perry the umbrella?
I admit that the upper school component is interesting, but also very OOC for everyone. The Endgame-style battle, complete with Mario characters, references, and overarching stories, on the other hand?Now, that would be a wonderful thing to see for the next thing. films.
@Zulzar I know I just saw this concept art. I’m so glad they didn’t do that lmfao.
@Yosher IV dreamed of a scene like that in the games (the closest, I think, Mario Galaxy). I’d love to see a great epic war in the Mario universe.
@Yosher It makes a lot of sense. Yoshis are the horses of Mario’s world, unless they can also fly and breathe fire. If Peach’s army were to go into battle, she would believe in many toads and Mario and Luigi riding Yoshis.
@Arcata, in fact it would be epic to see and I’d be disappointed if something similar doesn’t happen in the new movie. It would also have made sense in the Princess Peach Showtime game for Knight Peach or anything along the lines of riding a Yoshi that way.
@Yosher, yes, that would be great! It would have been great if they had had him with an enemy joust riding yoshis mdr.
