The war between Daniel and Johnny evolved in a way that showrunners never expected
After two seasons on YouTube, the spin-off of “Karate Kid” “Cobra Kai” has discovered a new life on Netflix, with a third season going on next year.For creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, substitution means they can simply take the screen in new instructions they may not have seen before…and give “Cobra Kai” a spin-off imaginable.
“Cobra Kai” began as a revival of the rivalry between Karate Kid hero Daniel LaRusso and goalkeeper Johnny Lawrence more than 30 years after his showdown at the All-Valley karate tournament.Since then, this dispute has grown to take not only Season 2 ended with a school-level war between Johnny’s scholars Cobra Kai and Daniel’s Miyagi-do followers, who took Johnny’s closest student, Miguel, to the hospital and Daniel’s wife furiously asks him to close his dojo.
With all those characters in a position for more demanding situations in Season 3, Hurwitz said they had played with the concept of a spin-off “Cobra Kai”.
“It’s hard for me to give you an accurate answer to that, but what I can say is that we have a list of at least five other scenarios that we can follow, which we can consider,” Hurwitz revealed in an interview with /FilmArray “Today, some of them are not traditional.Some of them don’t look like any kind of spin-off you’ve seen before.But every time we write episodes of the series, we fall in love with the characters we create and read about characters from the past.
“In the overall ‘Cobra Kai’, there are some things you can explore and some things that don’t have compatibility in that specific box, however, there may be opportunities along the way to break up with one of those characters and get to know better or explore other moments in the characters’ lives.”
Heald stated that he, Hurwitz and Schlossberg entered the series to show that “in the genuine world, when faced with violence, and that’s what karate is, even in self-defense, can become opposed to you.”
Showing those consequences meant the appearance of several new characters.With Miguel, a bullied kid Johnny took his wing as some kind of anti-Mr. Miyagi, “Cobra Kai” has brought new characters such as Johnny’s son Robby and Daniel’s daughter Sam, who begin to expand their emotions while exercising Daniel.”Cobra Kai” also expands the role of John Kreese, the original chef of “Cobra Kai”, who closes his horns with Johnny.
Schlossberg said that locating that balance between martial arts action expected by Karate Kid enthusiasts and not tarnishing the genuine consequences of Johnny and Daniel’s movements is a key step for them.
“I think we communicate a lot in this exhibition about violence, youth and school because it’s such a disturbing issue that it’s spreading in the world and in this country,” he said.”I think there’s a balance out there, not in things, yet.also not to get you out of a “Karate Kid” movie or anything that feels like that.”
Having moved to Netflix, Heald joked that ” they weren’t looking to be visitors to the space who come to Netflix and they start to feel too comfortable too soon in terms of, ‘Oh, that’s good, we’re also going to have this room.'”
“I think if we have a chance to go further, we will continue to do what we do, which is write financially, have great visions and rely on our production partners to make the visions a reality,” Heald told me.I can say that we still need to expand the series and, with the number of characters we have now in this universe, it has naturally been extended far beyond its starting point in Season 1.’
“Cobra Kai” will now be available on Netflix, season 3 is expected to arrive in 2021.

“28 days later” (2003) / “28 weeks later” (2007) – In Danny Boyle’s 2003 perfect original and incredible sequel directed through Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the world is bestalked by a viral pandemic that becomes a permanent rage.monsters don’t call them zombies, but, um, they absolutely are.
“Carriers” (2009) – In this post-apocalyptic drama, 4 friends who survived a global pandemic on a road holiday to a position where they can live in peace.Spoiler: Things don’t really work out. But he has Chris Pine, Emily Van Camp, Christopher Meloni and Piper Perabo, as well as Kiernan Shipka in one of his first previous roles “Mad Men”.
