The director of THE OLD GUARD on not directing SILVER – BLACK and how the commission was

After Sony Pictures failed to move forward with Silver and Black, Gina Prince-Bythewood faced The Old Guard for Netflix, and credits Marvel’s abandoned assignment for having the chance to take on another adaptation of a comedian’s e-book. After all, the mere fact of being attached to Spider-Man’s high-profile consequences was enough to put it on the radar of enthusiasts and studio managers.

“I wanted to approve more than some of the Marvel movies,” he told Indie Wire, reflecting on the project. “It’s a question of how far I can push it into this Marvel universe.”

As for the doors that have opened, the filmmaker adds: “Silver and Black” has put me in conversation. I’m one of the women other people go through for those wonderful movies. I knew what kind of movies Skydance was making. stimulating and passing. I knew I liked this project, partly because I could do what I wanted to do with the other movie: an angry superhero movie with two women.”

He goes on to point out that Prince-Bythewood had evolved the look of costumes and sets, detected locations, had written action scenes, and even worked with the visual effects team before Sony replaced the course.

“Everything happens for a reason,” he says. “I learned a lot that year and a half. Everything I learned about making a movie of this magnitude, I might just move it to ‘The Old Guard’. So it didn’t look like a giant jump.”

In fact, things worked well for the director, it’s a shame that we couldn’t see what she had planned for Silver Sable and Black Cat, as a recent leak of the plot made it clear that it was a laugh.
