The first photographs of the film The Mandalorian and Grogu are screened behind closed doors at D23

Star Wars enthusiasts were in for a real treat when the first photos of The Mandalorian and Grogu were screened at D23.

According to Deadline, the short clip sees Mando and Grogu touching each other’s hands in a sweet moment. In season 3 of The Mandalorian, Mando and Baby Yoda moved into Nevarro together, but it’s unclear what our heroes are doing now.

“We are bounty hunters through trade, now that he is with me, I will be selective in my missions,” Mando says in voiceover. We assume it’s Pedro Pascal under the helmet (although this hasn’t been officially shown for some reason). Babu Frick and Grogu are then seen piloting a shipment together; We can’t believe anything more beautiful. A snowy planet (possibly Hoth) is briefly shown, as well as Zeb from Star Wars: Rebels.

Directed by Jon Favreau from a script he co-wrote with Dave Filoni, the film is not only the first Star Wars film to hit theaters since 2019, but also the first theatrical film based on a Disney Plus series. Favreau announced that filming had only begun two weeks ago, but he tried to prepare something for what would be the last D23 before the film’s release.

“We’re all very excited to have Star Wars back on the screen,” Filoni told the crowd.

The Mandalorian and Grogu movie will hit theaters on May 22, 2026. For more information a galaxy away, check out our list of all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows you want to know about.
