‘The Garfield Movie’ has a digital streaming release date

The hit animated film The Garfield Movie, voiced by Chris Pratt as Garfield, will soon be available for virtual streaming.

Garfield’s film tells the story of Garfield’s origin and how the orange kitten arrived with his human “father” Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult) and the dog Odie (voiced by Harvey Guillén).

The film also depicts Garfield’s past with his ex-father Vic (Samuel L. Jackson). Vic wants his son’s help when his former stealing partner, Jinx (Hannah Waddingham), forces him to pay off an old debt by arranging an elaborate milk heist at Lactose Farms.

According to When to Stream, The Garfield Movie will stream on premium digital video on demand on July 9.

While announcements of When To Stream’s release date are accurate, the site noted that The Garfield Movie’s PVOD debut has yet to be announced or shown through the film’s studio, Columbia Pictures/Alcon Entertainment, so the date is subject to change. Garfield’s film was distributed through Columbia’s parent company, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

When The Garfield Movie streams digitally, it will be available in PVOD on platforms such as Prime Video, AppleTV, and VUDU. Lately, digital platforms are offering The Garfield Movie for pre-orders for $24. 99.

Pre-order values reflect the acquisition value of PVOD titles, while virtual rental values are between $5 and $19. 99 less. Digital rentals are valid for 48 hours once the viewer starts watching the movie.

According to box office tracking tool The Numbers, The Garfield Movie, which debuted in theaters on May 24, has grossed $90. 3 million domestically and $150. 3 million in foreign-priced ticket sales, for a total of $240. 6 million at the global box office to date.

Garfield’s film, until The Numbers, had a production budget of $60 million before printing and advertising costs.

The reception of Garfield’s Film, on the other hand, closes the spectrum for critics and audiences.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the animated family comedy a 35% “rotten” score based on 130 reviews, while RT users gave the film a “new” viewership score of 80% based on more than 1,000 verified user reviews.

Garfield’s film became a domestic box office marvel during the four-day Memorial Day weekend in May, where he narrowly missed out on the top spot in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

The film, however, conquered the most prominent place in national cinema in its second weekend of release.
