The Gentle Way Tom Hardy Intervened When a Production Studio Failed to Pay Some TV Crew Members

Tom Hardy is rarely just a wonderful actor, it turns out he’s also a smart guy. After it looked like a production studio wasn’t going to pay the crew of his new Paramount show, Fixer, the actor stepped in to pay for the crew himself. Even though the invoices were ultimately made through Paramount, who was asked to intervene when the company learned of the situation, Hardy’s gesture remains a generous act of service.

Guy Ritchie’s big-budget television series starring Hardy, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan is currently in production, and set builders worked tirelessly throughout the summer to make the director’s vision for the project possible. MTV Studios and 101 Studios, which are producing Fixer, hired the company Helix 3D to hire builders for the set. Even though construction occurred during the summer, Helix 3D had not paid out about £250,000 of wages to workers, and it soon became clear that they would not be paid in time for Christmas.

According to the Times, once Hardy discovered the set, he offered to pay the set developers himself, an offer Paramount rejected. However, this move turned out to have led Paramount to worry more about the scenario and make sure employees receive what they are owed before the holidays. The entertainment company would have been “outraged” when it discovered the unpaid invoices and the lack of transparency given to the studios about Helix 3D’s financial situation. The company is threatened with liquidation.

If those salaries hadn’t been paid until well after the holiday season, set developers likely would have been in dire financial straits over the holidays. However, with Hardy amplifying the issue, this did not happen. It’s a wonderful example of using a platform for good, and the Mad Max: Fury Road star actually helped save Christmas for many blue-collar workers.

This is rarely the first time celebrities have stepped in to pay staff after large corporations failed to compensate them or union disputes prevented them from doing so. Price Is Right host Drew Carey helped educate writers during last year’s strike, and the US media show’s hosts hosted a podcast to help their teams during this difficult financial time. Taylor Swift also notably gave huge bonuses to employees at the end of her Eras Tour. These productions are a team effort and it makes sense to know that these stars understand that their work would not be imaginable without the hard work of the staff and team around them.

Tom Hardy’s Fixer is still in production, but will be available with a Paramount+ subscription once it’s finished. For more information on other screens coming to streaming and network TV soon, be sure to check out our 2025 TV calendar.
